Lagos by-elections: Babatunde Gbadamosi, Alebiosu Adekoya win PDP tickets
Babatunde Gbadamosi emerged candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State chapter, for the Lagos East senatoral district, on Saturday after defeating three other candidates. In the result announced by a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tunde Oyebade, around 7:00 pm, Gbadamosi won a landslide victory with 529 votes to defeat Princess Saidat Odofin Fafowora 59 votes, Olanrewaju Moshood Babatunde scored 21 votes, and Princess Abiodun Oyefusi took the rear with seven votes. 14 votes were voided. Lagos shuts down coronavirus isolation centres in Eti-Osa, Agidingbi
The Lagos State government has decided to shut down isolation centres in Eti Osa and Agidingbi, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced on Saturday, August 1, 2020. While the Eti Osa centre has already shut down operations on Friday, July 31, coronavirus patients at the Agidingbi Isolation Centre will be relocated to newly-commissioned Indo-Centre in Anthony area. “We have got to a stage where we need to balance the economics of this and which of these facilities do we need to keep running. “Some of them now are having less than 20% occupancy,” the governor said. FRSC alerts motorists on imminent diversion on Lagos 3rd mainland bridge
The Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, says diversion and safety precaution are imminent, owing to the emergency rehabilitation on the third mainland bridge in Lagos. In a statement issued by the FRSC Public Education Officer (CPEO), Mr Bisi Kazeem, on Wednesday in Abuja, Oyeyemi said that the bridge would be partially closed for three months for the first phase of the job. Former LASIMRA chief dies of coronavirus in Lagos
Immediate past General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, LASIMRA, Chief Jide Odekunle, during the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in Lagos State is dead. He was said to have died at age 53 of COVID-19 complications. A top government official who confirmed this to Vanguard said late Odekunle died of COVID-19 complications at the Onikan isolation centre. Lagos records 21 more coronavirus recoveries, three fatalities
Lagos State has discharged 21 coronavirus patients. The state also recorded three more COVID-19 fatalities, according to the state Health Ministry on Saturday. The Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it will complete and deliver the Pen Cinema Bridge by November, 2020. The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the discharge of 13 more Coronavirus patients who recovered from the virus. The governor said those discharged included nine male and four female, all Nigerians. Coronavirus: Lagos begins chloroquine clinical trial this week
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, has said the state will this week commence the clinical trial treatment of COVID-19 using chloroquine as approved by NAFDAC. The state, which is the epicentre of the virus in the country, had previously disclosed plans to carry out the chloroquine clinical trial. Omotoso, in an interview with newsmen on Saturday, said, “We are ready for the chloroquine clinical trial because we have just secured all the approvals. The documentation has also been completed.
