Britain’s Sea Power Leads U.K. Chart Race With ‘Everything Was Forever’

Sea Power sets sail for the U.K. chart title with Everything Was Forever, though the British rock band has a fight on its hands. Formerly known as British Sea Power, the group has notched eight studio albums, including five Top 40 appearances, but never ruled the Official U.K. Albums Chart. That could change if Everything Was Forever (via Golden Chariot) continues to steam ahead. It’s No. 1 on the Official Chart Update, and is the market leader with physical sales in the early part of the chart cycle.  Everything Was Forever is Sea Power’s first release through Townsend Music’s D2C Plus model, which expanded in late 2021 to offer a range of artist services from finance, product curation, campaign management, design, manufacturing, marketing and more. To date, the group’s chart best is...

FTHC (an initialism for Frank Turner Hardcore) accumulates more than double the weekend sales of its closest competition, according to the Official Charts Company, to take outright leadership on the midweek chart. If it keeps its position when the chart is published this Friday, it’ll give Turner his first leader after two near-misses; his 2013 album Tape Deck Heart (2013), and 2015’s Positive Songs For Negative People (2015) both reached No. 2. The only thing standing in the way of Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift winning the U.K. chart crown would appear to be magic. Sheeran and Swift’s new collaboration “The Joker and the Queen” is on track for a No. 2 debut on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, following Ed’s performance of it last week at the 2022 Brit Awards. If it keeps its momentum, the single could beat the pair’s last collab, “Everything Has Changed,” which peaked at No. 7 back in 2012. The spell that could stop it is “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” the hit song from Disney’s Encanto soundtrack. “Bruno” has led the U.K. chart for the past four weeks and, based on sales and streaming data from the first 48 hours in the chart week, it’s racing to a fifth week at the summit. The British singer’s fourth album enters a fourth week at No. 1, for the longest consecutive run at the top for any album in 2021, the OCC reports. When the chart week wrapped up last Friday (Dec. 17), it wasn’t even close. According to the charts compiler, 30 scooped nearly twice the volume of chart sales of its closest competitor, Ed Sheeran’s = (equals via Asylum).
