Dress for the job you want.
And, dare I say, even enjoyable.
There are so many things we love about autumn: The leaves changing to magical colours before falling and crunching under our feet, nights turning dark, not needing an excuse to stay home and devour a box set, etc. However, when it comes to getting ready, obstacles arise. Chilly mornings that give way to unexpectedly mild afternoons can cause frequent headaches, particularly when quickly dressing for work. It’s too mild for winter coats and cashmere—two easy rush hour options—yet summery dresses just don’t provide enough coverage for the commute. It’s that tricky transitional time of year, especially if you’re leaving the house every day and need to look put together in a hurry. With this in mind, we’ve sourced a handful ...
Gone are the days when patent court shoes and uninspiring skirt suits were the only women’s workwear options. In 2022, with the abbreviation ‘WFH’ in our common vernacular and a post-pandemic appreciation for lounging sets, the spectrum of office outfits is broader than ever. As companies become more casual, the line between off- and on-duty fashion narrows. There are exceptions, of course, but offices are generally adopting more flexible approaches—and not just in relation to working hours and location. Sacrificing your personal style doesn’t have to be a pre-requisite of the dress code, as long as your look errs on the side of professional. It’s worth choosing pieces you can see...
Tailored trousers have come a long way from their reputation as the obligatory officewear piece or, dare I say it, their longstanding affinity with schoolwear *shudders*. We’ve all been there, forcibly scouring the high street as pre-teens for less-than-inspiring bootcut slacks. Now, however, they’re hailed as a hero piece—a wardrobe essential we’ve welcomed into our adult uniform with open arms. The circular nature of fashion has resulted in tailored trousers gaining some traction over the last couple of years. Through pop culture icons such as Diane Keaton in everything from Annie Hall to Baby Boom, Melanie Griffith in Working Girl and, of course, Princess Di circa the 1990s, it’s clear to see the power of a woman in a strong tailored look through the eyes of fashion history. Let’s ...
For many, this week will be the first time they are returning to the office in quite some time. Deciding what to wear on a Monday morning can be painful at the best of times, let alone if you’ve spent the past two years in leggings. The key to a successful approach to workwear is to have a capsule of smart, but comfortable, pieces that are simple enough to be mixed and matched and restyled in lots of different ways. You want to focus on ease too— shirts that won’t need to go to the dry cleaners each time you wear them and loose tailoring that looks put together, but not too restrictive. Below we have listed 10 items that will make getting dressed for the office a little easier, from a beautiful tailored blazer to a belted wrap coat to wide-leg trousers with a loose fit. It’s also impo...
Getting workwear right can be tricky at the best of times, let alone when the temperatures are so icy that all you want to wear is your pyjamas. As the weather gets bleaker, we often find our workwear wardrobes become a little drabber, with dark colours and practical (rather than fun) layering. But there are a number of ways you can look smart when you’re in hibernation mode. We have some tricks for softening corporate tailoring and adding personality to your winter basics, including expensive-looking knitwear and experimenting with bold colours. There are certain businesswomen who always provide inspiring workwear ideas, including Head of Fashion Partnerships at Instagram Eva Chen and Moda Operandi founder Lauren Santo Domingo. Keep scrolling to see how they do it. Yo...
When people ask me what I did over the course of lockdown, I can proudly say that I’ve perfected the cinnamon bun (it’s all in the proving), learnt how to use a sewing machine, and I have also managed to create the ideal working from home wardrobe. Yes, that does consist of a lot of stretchy denim and chunky knitwear, but it might surprise you to know that some of my favourite WFH outfits are dresses. There is, of course, one big box that any home office frock must tick: it has to have a bit of give. While I don’t imagine any of us are reaching for the Hervé Leger, some fabrics and silhouettes can be a little restrictive and uncomfortable so when I go for a dress to wear all day at my desk, I need it to be comfortable. That being said, it als...
After spending the last year and a half working from home, I need some reminders about how to get dressed up again, so I’m relying on an office capsule wardrobe more than ever. In the mornings, I don’t like to spend time thinking about what I’m wearing. Instead of trying on endless outfits, I would rather spend my time sipping a morning latte, catching up on the news, and scrolling through the latest updates on my Instagram feed. To cut back on the time I’m spending deciding on what I’m wearing to work, I’ve narrowed down my options to some key office essentials to develop an easy work capsule wardrobe. Ahead, see the 18 pieces I rely on for my outfits to wear to the Who What Wear office or for smarter days working at home. I will admit that these are pieces ...
The legal team of the Ndigbo Group has met with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, to monitor the proceedings relating to the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations to the Office of the AGF, Jibrilu Gwandu. The statement stated that the position of Ohanaeze Ndigbo on the issue of Kanu demonstrated their recognition of belonging to Nigeria and succumbing to the rule of law. “The group showed a mature departure from the mindset of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra when Ohanaeze said they ‘do not support the use of any form of violence’ while channelling concerns and presenting demands. “By urging the youths to be law-abiding a...
