Thanks to prominent presence in Season 4 of Stranger Things, the UK singer’s 1985 single, “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” sits at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. A combination of 18,300 digital song sales, 17.5 million streams, and 392,000 radio airplays propelled “Running Up That Hill” to No. 8 — just behind new releases from Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, and Lizzo (via Billboard). In the process, Bush secured her first-ever top 10 single in the US; prior to now, Bush’s previous peak on the Hot 100 came in November 1985, when “Running Up That Hill” hit No. 30. “Running Up That Hill” also re-entered the UK top songs chart at No. 8 — two spots below the previous high set in 2012...

Prolific fashion designer Thierry Mugler died on Jan. 23 at the age of 73. Through the 1980s and 1990s, the French designer helped to shape an era of colourful catwalks with artfully sculpted and larger than life designs. More recently, Thierry Mugler and his eponymous brand experienced a renaissance since stars like Cardi B and Kim Kardashian were often seen wearing his archival creations — and we couldn’t help but indulge in finding Mugler’s most over-the-top ’90s fashion designs. It was 2019 when Mugler charmed Instagram’s influential set of baddies. Cardi B showed up at the 2019 Grammys in a Mugler Couture oyster gown from 1995 that was inspired by the 1480’s painting The Birth of Venus by Botticelli. The following year, the “WAP” singer wore a...
M83’s classic double album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming just passed its 10th anniversary, and the band is feeling celebratory. Today the French electronic group announced a vinyl reissue of the record, and shared a new music video for the track “My Tears Are Becoming A Sea.” “My Tears Are Becoming A Sea” serves as prequel to the music video trilogy of “Midnight City,” “Reunion,” and “Wait” that M83 released back in the day. The new clip, directed by Sacha Barbin and Ryan Doubiago, provides an origin story for one of the children. Barbin and Doubiago explained of the video: “This story takes place 10 years earlier in order to highlight the first moment one of these children u...
Between his early masterpieces like Hunky Dory and his 26th and final album Blackstar, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that David Bowie made plenty of music that fell through the cracks or never saw a proper release. But Ziggy Stardust devotees will be happy to know that Toy, Bowie’s elusive 2001 album, has finally received its proper commercial release today. Toy arrives as part of an archival box set titled Brilliant Adventure (1992 – 2001). Bowie recorded it in 2001, in the aftermath of his 2000 Glastonbury performance. His intent with Toy was to reimagine some of his earlier recordings with a full band and then surprise-release the record, but when his label EMI/Virgin squashed those plans, Bowie signed to Columbia, ditched Toy altogether, a...
On November 26th, David Bowie’s fabled 2001 album, Toy, will received its first-ever commercial release as part of an upcoming archival box set called Brilliant Adventure (1992 – 2001). Then on January 7th, it’ll received a standalone release as a multi-disc set titled, TOY:BOX. In anticipation, the Toy track “Karma Man” has been released alongside an alternate version of “Silly Boy Blue.” Listen to both recordings below. Toy was recorded in the aftermath of Bowie’s 2000 performance at Glastonbury, as the Thin White Duke sought to reimagine some of his earliest recordings with a live backing band, and then release it in a surprise manner. But after EMI/Virgin put the kibosh on those plans, Bowie lost interest in the project, moved to Columbia Records, and recorded the album Heathen. ...
Fashion just can’t get enough of the biggest ’90s and Y2K trends, and neither can we. First, slip dresses returned with a vengeance, then strappy sandals became the unofficial shoe of summer, and now butterflies are making a major comeback. This sweet detail has recently been seen on Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, and Olivia Rodrigo. The Future Nostalgia singer wore a Versace dress featuring a crystal butterfly on the bodice at the 2021 Grammys that took over our timelines. Rodrigo has worn countless butterfly printed outfits while promoting her new album Sour (2021). And both Lipa and Hadid have been seen wearing Blumarine’s Y2K butterfly-themed collection for the 2022 resort season. Instagram’s style set has also given butterfly details the seal of approval, and the cute ...
Despite being a ’90s teen rom-com favorite, She’s All That barely held up at the time of its release in 1999. The whole “transform an outsider into a popular kid so that everyone can learn lessons about themselves” thing reinforced the grossness of high school hierarchy as much as anything. Now that social media has made teenagers that much more judgmental, it’s apparently time to reiterate those lessons with a remake. Netflix is releasing the gender-swapped He’s All That on August 27th, and the streamer has today delivered the first trailer. From the looks of it, She’s All That screenwriter R. Lee Fleming and Mean Girls director Mark Walters decided to take all the worst parts of the original and make it 2021. TikTok star (aka content thief, aka not an actress) Addison Rae plays Padg...
