Racist North Carolina Sheriff Resigns During Removal Hearing

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Sara D. Davis / Getty A Columbus County, North Carolina, sheriff—who was caught on tape saying he’s “sick of these Black bastards,” in reference to Black law enforcement officials (among a slew of other blatantly racist statements)—resigned from his job during a hearing that would have decided whether he was going to get the boot anyway. According to WECT, now-former Columbus County Sheriff Jody Greene—the racist cop who ironically has one of the Blackest names ever—submitted his resignation in a county courtroom during the hearing, right before the first witness was set to be called. It’s almost as if the KKKop decided to take his spare noose and go home before people started taking the stand to testify about how he generally said he hated all his Black ...

One would think that all the news stories about students getting in trouble for their Snapchat slavery auctions and racist prom-posals—or teachers getting fired or suspended for slavery activities—would deter all of these people and their return-to-Roots wet dreams from continuing to trivialize chattel slavery by reenacting Black oppression. And yet here we are—again.  According to the Charlotte News & Observer, the Chatham County school system in North Carolina has some ‘splaining to do after it was revealed that students engaged in a mock slavery action during which Black students were “sold” by white students as staff members watche...

It will also sell its products only behind counters at retailer...

Annual Durag Fest Continues To Celebrate Black Culture Despite Rapid Decline In Allyship

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Andrew Milligan – PA Images / Getty One year after Black Lives Matter protests swept the nation, public interest in social injustice and awareness has significantly waned like a fad. It’s as if white allyship ran in tandem with the short but highly saturated news cycle of Black tragedy positioned across television screens and the front pages of newspapers. However, that hasn’t stop organizers like Dammit Wesley, one of the co-founders of the Durag Fest in North Carolina, from curating Black events to keep the proverbial torch burning.  In a report by Blavity, Dammit shares his struggles of bringing the annual festival to life in Charlotte, where it has traditionally white-washed the presence of a “very Black city.” The event commemorates Juneteenth, ...

US election: Republicans hold back Democrats, narrowing path to Senate control

The battle for power in the Senate tightened into Wednesday as Democrats picked up a seat in Colorado, but suffered a setback in Alabama, and Republicans held their own in high-profile races in South Carolina, Iowa, Texas and Kansas, dramatically narrowing the political map. Republicans fought to retain their Senate majority by turning back a surge of Democrats challenging allies of President Donald Trump, and the Democrats’ various paths to seizing control were growing more limited. With several contests still too early to call, and one Georgia race heading to a January runoff, the final verdict is expected to drag on. Democrats gained a seat when ex-Gov. John Hickenlooper ousted GOP Sen. Cory Gardner in Colorado, a must-win to flip the Senate, but couldn’t hold on in Alabama, where forme...
