Ibiza Nightlife Officials Confirm Clubs Can Return In April 2022: Report

Nightlife will reportedly soon return to one of the world’s top clubbing destinations, Ibiza. According to a report by Diario de Ibiza, a number of nightlife and tourism officials have confirmed plans for the island’s nightclubs to return in April 2022. The onset and impact of COVID-19 decimated Ibiza’s nightlife sector, which hasn’t been fully open since 2019. “The idea is that the opening will be at the end of April, two weeks ahead of what is normally done,” said José Luis Benítez, Manager of the Ibiza Leisure Association, per Diario. He added that the hope is to persist until November if “all goes well,” which would signal the longest clubbing season in White Isle history. Two Canadian provinces have reportedly relaxed COVID-19 restrictions affecting nightlife businesses—but attendees must refrain from dancing. According to Global News, Quebec and British Columbia are currently the only two provinces with a mandate that bans dancing in bars and nightclubs. “Montréal is one of the last few cities in the world where you still can’t dance, and we have one of the highest vaccination rates in the world for adults,” said Mathieu Grondin, the co-founder of MTL 24/24, a non-profit organization that analyzes, animates and provides frameworks for the city’s nightlife. “Dance floors have reopened...

The Reopening of Ibiza’s Nightlife Scene Is Almost Here

According to an announcement made by the Consell de Govern Balearics, the popular island and nightlife destination of Ibiza will be allowed to reopen its nightclubs soon.  However, the White Isle won’t exactly resemble its full-fledged glory off the bat. Stipulations of the club reopenings include safety measures such as a requirement for patrons to wear masks on the dancefloor at all times, drinking only when seated, and the presentation of proof of COVID-19 vaccination upon entry to each venue.  Ibiza’s clubs and nightlife destinations will only be allowed to operate at 75% capacity. While not ideal for revelers and club owners alike, the island’s entertainment association, Ocio de Ibiza, believes it’s a step in the right direction. ”The responsibility w...

Its hospitals are now inundated as the number of cases rises, leading to a crisis wherein clinics have run out of ICU beds and doctors are forced to treat patients in car parks. Reports of victims dying on roads have incensed many in the region. “We don’t know where to put the sick people anymore, the ER units in many hospitals have to be temporarily closed because they no longer have bed spaces,” Department of Medical Services head Somsak Akksilp said in a news...

New Mask Mandate Could Severely Impact Los Angeles Nightlife

A surging new wave of COVID-19 infections has led LA County officials to announce the reinstatement of their mask mandate policy. Effective 11:59PM, July 17th, the regulation requires everyone to once again wear a mask while indoors regardless of their vaccination status. The circumstances could prove damaging to a nightlife industry that has borne substantial economic hardship over the last year. Many of the city’s clubs and venues, such as the historic Troubador, were at risk of permanent closure following the onset of COVID-19. Fox 11 Los Angeles reports business owners expressed frustration over the potential of losing business to establishments in surrounding counties where no such mandate is currently in effect. However, that might soon change after Long Beach County subse...

New York City’s Office of Nightlife have shared a comprehensive report that includes plans to establish 24-hour “entertainment districts.” This would mean certain regions in the city would be permitted to sell alcohol and host events at any time. Oftentimes, strict curfews lead to the rise of unlicensed, possibly dangerous gatherings that bleed into residential areas. The pilot program notes: “Uniform closing hours can lead to increased tensions when groups of people simultaneously exit venues into public streets and sidewalks.” According to the new proposal, allowing 24-hour nightlife zones in specified districts “can help people to move at their own pace and reduce conflicts” if implemented properly. The Office of Nightlife is in the process ...
