The national umbrella for Public Office Holders Association of Nigeria (POHAN) Thursday lauded the appointment of notable diplomat and former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, as new Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari. Gambari’s appointment followed the death of the occupier of the seat, Mallam Abba Kyari, as a result of the Covid-19 disease. 33-year-old coronavirus patient gives birth Lagos

A 33-year-old coronavirus patient has been delivered of a baby boy at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba. This was contained in a statement on Friday by LUTH Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee, Prof Wasiu Adeyemo. He assured that both mother and son were doing well. Adeyemo said, “LUTH delivers third patient (33-year-old) with COVID-19 of a baby boy. “A team of LUTH doctors, anaesthetists and nurses delivered another woman with COVID-19 of a baby boy (3kg). “The baby was delivered via a ceaserian section on Thursday, 14th May 2020. Ondo Assembly probes N4.3 billion in ‘secret account’

The Ondo State House of Assembly says it has commenced an investigation into the N4.3 billion claimed to have been recovered from an alleged secret account in a commercial bank. The Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Edamisan Ademola, told newsmen after plenary on Friday that the assembly had directed the committee to investigate the source of the secret account. Ademola said the committee had invited some government officials, including the Commissioner for Finance, Chief Wake Akinterinwa, as well as the Accountant-General and the state Auditor-General on the discovery. Court orders remand of two Chinese nationals who offered EFCC officer ‘N100 million bribe’

Sokoto State High Court presided over by Justice Sa’adu Sifawa on Friday ordered two Chinese to be remanded in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for allegedly attempting to bribe an EFCC officer with N50 million. The N50 million which is in the custody of the EFCC is said to be the first tranche of the alleged N100 million bribe offered the agency official. Oyo discharges 11 coronavirus patients

The Oyo State Task Force on COVID-19, on Friday, recorded a major victory in its ongoing fight against the novel Coronavirus when it discharged 11 persons after they tested negative to COVID-19 twice. A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted a member of the Task Force and former Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Temitope Alonge, as saying that after the discharge of the 11 cases, the Centre now had 32 patients, and that all but one, were in stable condition. The statement added that of the 11 persons discharged at the Infectious Disease Centre, Olodo, Ibadan, three were females and eight were males. Missing girl found dead inside co-tenants vehicle

Olujoda area of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital on Friday, was thrown into mourning when the corpse of a 7-year -old girl Olagoke Morire, was found dead inside a vehicle owned by a co-tenant. It was gathered that Morire and her twin sister, Olagoke Mokore were with their cousin in their apartment before they went out to buy biscuits. The mother of the deceased Kehinde Ajayi said her daughter got missing around 1:15 pm after Mokore left her in the compound to fetch the money she forgot in the room. Kano trains 350 health workers on infectious disease control

A first batch training of 350 health workers on infectious disease control has commenced in Kano in collaboration with the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC. Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, on Friday urged the trainees to give adequate attention to patients with other ailments, even as they are in the heat of fighting COVID-19. Ganduje who delivered an address at the opening event of the training on Friday said that his government has intensified the fight against COVID-19 and charged the health workers to reciprocate. He said training of the health workers is designed to garner enough manpower to fight Corona Virus as well as other diseases in the state. Chairman of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr, has recovered from coronavirus. Newsmen report that the founder of DAAR Communications Plc, Raymond Dokpesi, and two of his grandchildren also recovered from coronavirus on Thursday and were discharged from the University of Abuja Treatment Centre. Kano confirms 46 new cases of coronavirus

The Kano State Government has disclosed that 46 new cases of coronavirus disease have been recorded in the state. The Nigeria Center for Disease Control on Thursday announced 193 new cases of the viral infection in the country. Out of the 193 confirmed cases, 46 were recorded in Kano. Confirming the development, the Kano State Ministry of Health in a tweet on Friday said 8 additional coronavirus patients were discharged.
