House of Reps panel insists on NDDC probe of alleged misuse of over N40 billion
The House of Representatives has reiterated its resolve to probe into the allegation of mismanagement of over N40 billion by the interim management committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta development commission (NDDC). The chairman of the House Committee on NDDC, Mr Olubunmi Ojo made this known to reporters at the National Assembly complex in Abuja. The lawmaker denied the allegation from a member of the NDDC IMC that his committee , alongside that of the Senate benefited from a contract to the tune of about N3 trillion from the NDDC. Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, Commissioner for Education, Lagos State, said the state government had partnered Microsoft to train 18, 000 teachers to enhance computer literacy towards achieving a world best teaching and learning practices. Nigeria considers traditional herbal treatment for coronavirus
The Federal Government is not ignoring any direction in it’s search for cure for the Coronavirus disease. Aside orthodox sources, the government is exploring traditional alternatives for ways to defeat the virus. Part of the efforts is the plan to screen 19 Nigerian firms to assess their suitability for the production of herbal remedies to the pandemic. Newsmen report that the Federal Ministry of Health and National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC are coordinating the efforts. The firms, it was learnt, made many claims ranging from the outright cure for COVID-19 to the treatment of the symptoms. Ogun: Coronavirus has spread to 16 of our 20 local councils
Ogun State Government on Monday said COVID-19 had spread to 16 out of 20 local government areas of the state. The Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Tomi Coker, who disclosed in an interview with newsmen, said only four local government were free of COVID-19 in the state as of Monday afternoon. Coker, who mentioned three out of four councils that were free of the virus, said she did not remember the fourth one. Osun records two new coronavirus cases
Osun State has recorded two new cases of coronavirus and discharged two other patients. The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Rafiu Isamotu, in a statement, explained that with the discovery of two new cases, the number of active cases in the state has risen to four, as of May 24. The statement read, “Today (Sunday), two COVID-19 patients were discharged from our isolation and treatment centre to join their families after they tested negative for the virus. “Sadly, we also recorded two new cases, bringing the number of active cases in the state to four. Minister: 69 Nigerians nationals stranded in Lebanon evacuated back home
Fifty female victims of trafficking and 19 other persons who were stranded in Lebanon have been evacuated to Nigeria. Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, who made the announcement, said they arrived in the country on Sunday. Official: 400 bandits killed in airstrikes in Katsina, Zamfara
The Defence Headquarters says the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji has neutralised no fewer than 200 armed bandits in multiple air strikes in Katsina and Zamfara. The Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja said the operations were in continuation of the offensive to rid the country of bandits and other criminal elements. Enenche said that close to 200 bandits were killed in multiple air strikes conducted at Ibrahim Mai’Bai’s Camp in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina and Kurmin Kura in Zurmi in Zamfara on May 22 and May 23. President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Nigerian farmers to increase their food production as Nigeria has ‘no money’ for food importation. Even before the coronavirus pandemic, Nigeria has restricted food importation as the country strived to produce a lot of the food it consumes. The country also shut its borders with neighbouring countries, largely to prevent the importation and smuggling of items such as rice, poultry and petrol.
