HURIWA drags President Buhari to court over federal character principle

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has instituted a legal action against President Muhammadu Buhari. HURIWA explained that the suit was instituted against Buhari at an Abuja Federal High Court due to violations of the Federal Character Principle as provided for in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. A statement by HURIWA’s National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zainab Yusuf disclosed that the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/534/2020 was filed on May 27, 2020. The rights advocacy group said Buhari violated the Federal Character principles in the constitution of the Board of Nigeria Police Trust Fund. President Buhari makes new appointments

Pursuant to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund Establishment Act 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of retired Inspector-General of Police, Barrister Suleiman Abba, CFR, Mni, as Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund.
