Don’t call him an actor, thank you very much. In a new interview, Nicolas Cage made it clear he prefers to be labeled as something much more serious when it comes to his profession. “I really don’t like the word actor because for me it always implies, ‘Oh, he’s a great actor, therefore he’s a great liar, and (great at) lying,’” he said during an appearance on the Variety Awards Circuit podcast. “So with the risk of sounding like a pretentious a–hole, I like the word thespian because thespian means you’re going into your heart. Or you’re going into your imagination, or your memories or your dreams, and you’re bringing something back to communicate with the audience.” The National Treasure star continued: “I think it’s more like recruiting imagination. Dare I say it, it’s more like a s...
Fang-tastic news: Nicolas Cage will star as the vampire Dracula in the new Universal monster movie Renfield. It’s named for R. M. Renfield, an inmate at a lunatic asylum who becomes the count’s henchman in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Renfield will be played by Nicholas Hoult (The Great), with direction from Chris McKay (The Tomorrow War). Like vampires themselves, plot details are being kept in the dark, and it’s unclear how the film will build a story around Renfield, or whether we’ll see other original characters like Jonathan Harker, Mina Murray, or the vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. But Renfield‘s script comes from comedy vet Ryan Ridle (Rick and Morty), from an outline by The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman, so b...
Nicolas Cage is a bank robber hoping not to go out with a bang in the new trailer for Prisoners of the Ghostland. The neo-noir action movie by Japanese director Sion Soto is slated to arrive in theaters and on streaming September 17th. Taking place in the perilous Samurai Town, Prisoners of the Ghostland stars Bill Moseley as a conniving warlord whose adopted granddaughter Bernice (Sofia Boutella) has been mysteriously abducted. To get her back to safety, he enlists the help of an escaped convict, played by Cage and called [checks notes, sighs] Hero. Freedom will be Hero’s reward if he gets Bernice home, and as extra incentive, he’s strapped with a series of explosives, including one that could rob this robber of his family jewels. Check out the adrenaline-packed trailer bel...
For his latest role, Nicolas Cage channels Keanu Reeves and Liam Neeson while playing a truffle hunter in a revenge thriller called PIG. During the search, he recruits a truffle salesman played by Alex Wolff (Hereditary). The clip opens with a heavily bearded Cage accompanying his pig as she finds truffles. If you’ve ever wanted to punch the rat at Chuck E. Cheese then we’ve got the movie for you. Nicolas Cage wages war against possessed animatronics in the new trailer for Willy’s Wonderland. The film is directed by Kevin Lewis from a screenplay by G.O. Parsons. It stars Cage as a quiet man — in the trailer, he doesn’t speak a word — whose car breaks down at the side of the road. In exchange for getting his vehicle fixed, our hero agrees to spend one night cleaning Willy’s Wonderland, a defunct family establishment famous for its eight animatronic characters. Imagine the new janitor’s surprise when they come to life and try to kill him. Along the way he meets a group of teen’s led by Emily Tosta, who try to warn him that, “You’re here to be a human sacrifice.” But as the fur flies, the youths...
Netflix’s History of Swear Words has received its first official trailer, and it’s a fuckin’ doozy. The Nicolas Cage-hosted series is a dive into the origins of the words “fuck”, “shit”, “bitch”, “dick”, “pussy”, and “damn”. Fittingly, the trailer begins with a dapperly dressed Cage standing up from his seat and screaming the F-bomb at the top of his lungs, which seems like a good indication of what the show is all about. Netflix describes the six-episode series, which was produced by Funny or Die, as such: “An education in expletives: the history lesson you didn’t know you needed. History of Swear Words, hosted by Nicolas Cage, is a loud and proudly profane series that explores the origins, pop culture-usage, science, and cultural impact of curse words.” Throughout the trailer, Cage is jo...
You never know what’s going to happen when pals get together for a chat. I mean, I guess that can be said about life, but it’s even more applicable when you get Nicolas Cage and Marilyn Manson. In their chat for Interview, Cage told Manson about the last time he gambled, and well, let the iconic Con Air star explain. “The last time I gambled was about 30 years ago,” Cage said. “I was in the Bahamas, and I walked into a casino and felt like I had my mojo with me, like nothing could go wrong. My game was roulette. I went in with $200, and I didn’t miss a number, so much so that even the lady spinning the wheel said, ‘Nothing sweeter than a repeater.’ In 20 minutes I turned $200 into $20,000, so I went and found an orphanage in the Bahamas, met all the kids and the headmis...
Amazon has nabbed the rights to the upcoming Joe Exotic TV series starring Nicolas Cage. The eight-episode series is being helmed by Dan Lagana, co-creator and showrunner of the Netflix mockumentary American Vandal. The story will focus on rise and fall of the eccentric zookeeper, who became an Internet sensation after being featured in the Netflix documentary Tiger King. He is currently serving 22 years in a federal prison after being found guilty of a murder-for-hire plot against his former rival, Carole Baskin, as well as for animal abuse. (Earlier this week, Joe Exotic formally petitioned Donald Trump for a pardon.) The origins of Lagana’s project actually pre-date Netflix’s Tiger King. CBS Television Studios optioned the series, based on a Texas Monthly&n...
Nicolas Cage is following in the proud lineage of Sean Connery, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Rachel Weisz by lending his voice to a CG dragon. The actor has signed on to play the title character in Amazon Prime’s adaptation of Highfire (via Deadline). The live-action series is based on the crime thriller novel by Eoin Colfer, best known for his Artemis Fowl series (which took Disney years to turn into a completely terrible movie). Unlike those books, though, Highfire is aimed at an adult audience, with The Guardian describing it as “True Detective meets Swamp Thing.” It’s centered on Highfire (Cage), a dragon who used to lord over his brethren but now lives in the Louisiana Honey Island Swamp. Going by the name “Vern,” he hides amongst alligators when he’s not watchin...
Shudder already celebrated Halfway to Halloween back in April. Come September, however, they’re bringing the real tricks and treats with 61 Days of Halloween, and today they’ve announced all kinds of exciting festivities. The two-month celebration will feature weekly original programming, a new Halloween special of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, a sequel to the one and only Ghoul Log, and, yes, the return of the Shudder Halloween Hotline. “We usually call October our ‘Super Bowl month’ but this year we’re starting on September 1st, so the 61 Days of Halloween will be our Super Bowl combined with Mardi Gras and Christmas,” said Shudder GM Craig Engler in a press release, who also teased a surprise at the end of the month “that will have horror fans everywhere talking.” Editors’...
The idea of Jimmy Fallon impersonating Nicolas Cage playing Tiger King’s Joe Exotic reads like something an Internet algorithm made up. Alas, The Tonight Show clown king made it a reality on Tuesday night, capitalizing on the news of the forthcoming scripted series. Basically, it’s Fallon doing his best bar room gesticulation of Cage, only wearing all the Tiger King accoutrements. The bleach-blonde wig? Check. The ’90s Fleer Ultra shades? Check. The Spirit Halloween threads? Check. He even wrote a country song. Of course, this writer is well aware of the hypocrisy that he’s writing this up and promoting it. But, if you’re like him, and already convinced the world is teetering on the edge of destruction, then perhaps you’ll take joy in muting the video and simply imagining Fallon has just l...
