Instagram Will Impose “90-Second Rule” for Copyrighted Tracks on Livestream DJ Sets

While we are all out here trying to regain a sense of normality, not much is more painstakingly traditional than the stress of your recording getting taken down due to copyright. Though this is nothing new, the sting hurts just the same. As our champions of easing the quarantine blues, DJs have been faced with navigating the field maze of livestream guidelines during this time of social distancing. Now, Instagram, the social media giant that lives under the Facebook umbrella, is imposing a new initiative they dub the “90-second rule” in order to prevent copyright issues on tracks being used during these livestreams.   Instagram has implemented a new pop-up to warn users who are featuring more than 90 seconds of a copyrighted track to stop or risk having thei...

Beyonce Pays Tribute to George Floyd: ‘Rest in Power’

Beyoncé has joined the growing list of celebrities speaking out against the horrifying death of a Black man at the hands of a police officer. The clip surfaced on the Internet Monday (May 25) shows a Minnesota officer allegedly suffocating George Floyd by kneeling on his neck. Floyd is heard crying out that he couldn’t breathe and was in pain, but he was ignored. Floyd went to Hennepin County Medical Center after falling unconscious, and died shortly after. Though the officers involved were fired on Tuesday, Floyd’s death is just one example of the ongoing systematic racism in America. On the homepage of her website, Beyoncé displayed a photo of Floyd, with the simple but powerful caption “Rest in Power George Floyd.” See it via a fan Twitter pag...

Which Artist Should Do a Drive-In Concert Next? Vote!

Drive-in concerts are all the rave now, but which touring artist would you rave to from inside your car if they put on a drive-in show? Kesha would have embarked on her 2020 High Road Tour with Big Freedia had it not been for the coronavirus pandemic, but these two could raise hell from the road without ever leaving it. Similarly, Kenny Chesney pushed his NFL stadium Chillaxification Tour to 2021, apologizing to his heart-broken fans, “Sadly, we can’t find a way to make it safe, to navigate water that’s just not getting any clearer.” But the country legend has a shot at navigating those waters by finding outdoor fields that are roughly the same size of NFL stadiums and letting the shows go on. Pearl Jam ran into the same bump in the road when the band wanted to p...

Hayley Williams Gets All Carpool Karaoke in ‘Watch Me While I Bloom’ Video

If you’ve ever wanted to see Hayley Williams take on Carpool Karaoke, today’s your lucky day… sort of. This car is actually moving. The Paramore vocalist, whose solo debut is out now, released a DIY-style lyric video for her pop anthem “Watch Me While I Bloom” on Wednesday (May 27). The four-minute clip features Williams in the front seat of a car, bopping to the album cut with seemingly unrehearsed, yet still totally lively, car-seat choreography. She really gets into it, with her beanie completely flying off her head at one point, proving that she’s just as lively in the passenger seat as she is on stage in front of thousands. The clip also cuts to some never-before-seen studio footage, seemingly from the Petals for Armor sessions featuring Vampire Weekend’s touring guitar...

Los Angeles’ Greek Theatre Cancels 2020 Concert Season

If you weren’t aware of the state of the touring world yet, the homepage for L.A.’s Greek Theatre is a cold reminder that things aren’t getting to normal any time soon. The words “POSTPONED” and “CANCELLED” are plastered before each date of the venue’s once-packed performance schedule, which included tour stops from the Goo Goo Dolls, R&B star Jhené Aiko, country singer Maren Morris and more that are either axed completely or pushed back due to COVID-19. And above the individual show postings sits Tuesday’s venue announcement: “For the first time in 90 years, The Greek Theatre Los Angeles announces cancellation of its 2020 season.” The 5,900-capacity venue announced on Tuesday that it will follow “state, county and city guidelines” regarding the coronavirus and mass...

Brian May ‘Overwhelmed’ by Love and Support From Fans After Heart Attack Scare

After suffering a “small heart attack” scare earlier this week, Brian May has shared a special message to all his fans. “I’m overwhelmed,” he said in the Instagram video, “and really, more than touched by the torrent of love and support that’s come back at me after all the incredible coverage in the press, I really didn’t expect all that.” May gave fans a scare after a gardening accident where he tore his gluteus maximus and was later found to be a bigger nerve problem that “paralysed” his brain. This eventually led to a “small heart attack.” The Queen guitarist also talked about how the scores of messages that he received in his “email box” and other places made him think about how it felt like he got to hear the dedications that people make to the deceased at their funerals. “All these p...

Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day to Stream This Weekend

Continuing their ongoing series of broadcasting classic shows from the past, YouTube will host a broadcast of Led Zeppelin’s Celebration Day. The show, at least for now, was the last time that Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones (with Jason Bonham filling in for his late father on drums) performed together under the Led Zeppelin name. The concert took place on Dec. 10, 2007 at London’s O2 Arena as a tribute to Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. It was Zeppelin’s first headlining show in 27 years and the film was released in 2012. The two-plus hour show saw the band stampede through their biggest hits. Celebration Day will air beginning this Saturday, May 30, beginning at 3 pm EST/12 pm PST. It will air, like the previous concert films, for just three days. Chec...
