Benjamin Gibbard Shares Recorded Version of New Single ‘Proxima B’

Today is the last day of livestream pioneer and Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard’s ongoing series of streams (at least on a frequent basis). Giving fans a bit of a thank you, Gibbard shared a new single that he recorded in quarantine. Titled “Proxima B,” the tune has already been performed during past livestreams. But the recorded version has more of an upbeat, power-pop vibe with lyrics that describe going to another world. For its B-side, Gibbard tackled Minor Threat’s “Filler.” Unlike the chaotic original, this version is a bit more tender and runs almost double of the original’s 93 seconds. “This one I wrote a while ago and I was going to have it out as a single for my solo tour this spring,” Gibbard said in a release. “It’s about a planet that was discovered deep, deep in the co...

Ice Cube Cancels Good Morning America Appearance and Says He’s ‘Done Talking’

Ice Cube was scheduled to make an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America earlier this morning (May 28). But after the killing of George Floyd on May 25, he decided to cancel. “I apologize to everyone expecting to see me on Good Morning America today,” he tweeted, “but after the events in Minnesota with George Floyd I’m in no mood to tell America, good morning.” Fans responded to his cancelation and hoped he would use the GMA appearance as a platform to share what he’s been expressing on social media. However, the N.W.A. rapper said he was done. “I’m done talking,” he tweeted. “These people know right from wrong and they obviously don’t care. So what we talking about?” After footage documenting how Floyd died surfaced online, the legendary rapper didn’t hold back on his feelings regarding...

Radiohead to Stream Classic 1994 Show From London

After throwing fans a curveball last week with the airing of their 2011 film The King of Limbs From the Basement, Radiohead will go back to their regularly scheduled streaming programming. This week, Radiohead will roll back the years to nearly their beginnings, streaming a show from the Astoria in London from 1994. Taking place on May 27, 1994, the show is one of the more famous of their earlier shows. The show has been the subject of many bootlegs over the years, but this is clearly the defining video version of that performance. Radiohead released Live at the Astoria on VHS in March 1994 and on DVD in 2005. Radiohead jammed through 17 songs, including “Creep,” “My Iron Lung,” and “Fake Plastic Trees. Previously, Radiohead has posted festival sets from Coachella&...

311’s Nick Hexum and Vaporwave Artist George Clanton Announce Joint Album, Release ‘Aurora Summer’

311 frontman Nick Hexum and vaporwave icon George Clanton announced that they’re teaming up for an album, the aptly titled George Clanton & Nick Hexum. While the album won’t be out until July 23, the duo dropped “Aurora Summer” today to give fans a taste of what to expect over the next couple of months. “This album is a collab no one asked for or predicted,” Clanton said in a statement. “There isn’t a big overlap in fan bases here, but I think Nick and I share the same musical ethos. Nick has never pandered to a mainstream audience with his work in 311, they’ve always done their own thing and built their own culture around the music they wanted to make. I believe in that, and I’ve been doing my own thing for 10 years now. Nick certainly doesn’t NEED to do this collab, and I’ve never do...

Whether the iconic pop stars are performing across from each other on separate pianos or John is recruiting her to be the “Gaga-mother” of his children, Billboard compiled a timeline of how these two pop peas in a pod came to be. January 2010: Lady Gaga performs at the Grammys for the first time with Elton John. Before she became Mother Monster, the Fame Monster singer made her Grammy debut by opening the awards show with her Fame Factory performance, a well-oiled machine p...

Absolute Merch Teams With Artists to Raise Money for Charity

It was supposed to be a big year for Billy Candler with Absolute Merch, who had a number of high profile clients preparing to embark on major tours. “We were expecting this to be the biggest year we’ve ever had,” explained Candler. “We had some life changing tours for some of our artists on the book that would have equated to great business for us and anchored our live strategy.” That included Blackbear who was on tour with Halsey, Ice Nine Kills who was playing arenas with Five Finger Death Punch and “a couple artists that had unannounced tours for this summer in amphitheaters,” Candler said. All that changed in March when the market crash caused by COVID-19 crisis derailed those plans and left the merch company and printer with a lot of gear that would not go out on the r...

British rapper and YouTuber KSI is making a fight of it with Dissimulation, which starts at No. 2 on the midweek chart and leads all albums on streams and downloads. Four tracks from Dissimu...

2 Chainz Restaurant Shut Down For COVID-19 Guidelines Violations

Source: Prince Williams / Getty 2 Chainz needs to holla at his restaurant’s management. The Atlanta rapper’s local establishment, Escobar Restaurant & Tapas, got shut down by the police due to violations of COVID-19 guidelines. TMZ reports that on Monday night, the cops drove by and noticed the restaurant looked particularly busy. The Georgia State Police took a closer look and according to the police report,  they “noticed that the location was rather loud, busy, and occupied to be operating as a restaurant at that time of night.” And just like that, the party was over. All those people assembled, besides showing a stunning lack of common sense, meant the restaurant was in violation of COVID-19 guidelines. Georgia’s guidelines reportedly call for 10 customers max per table on onl...

Crowds Gather In Minneapolis To Protest Murder Of George Floyd, Tear Gas Deployed By Cops

Source: Stephen Maturen / Getty George Floyd, the Houston native who was effectively murdered by Minneapolis police earlier this week, was in the front of the minds of those who gathered to protest his senseless death. As large crowds gathered in the southern section of the Minnesota city, police and protestors clashed not unlike demonstrations of the past sparked by similar circumstances. While an official tally of gatherers is largely unknown, thousands, or at the very least, hundreds, took to the streets of South Minneapolis as they met at a memorial site for Floyd. Known as “Big Floyd” by family and friends, the restaurant security guard and family man was targeted by police after allegedly attempting to use a counterfeit bill at a store. While outside sitting on the hood of his car, F...
