ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus Named President of CISAC

Björn Ulvaeus, a co-founder of ABBA who wrote the group’s hits with his bandmate Benny Andersson, was today (May 29) named the president of CISAC, the global confederation of authors societies. Known for his business-savvy, as well as his interest in technology, Ulvaeus steps into the role at a time when Internet companies and collecting societies are learning to live with one another but still have very different views on how streaming services should work and what they should pay creators. “I tend to think that creators get too little, of course, because I’m a songwriter, and I think that in the long run we have to take a closer look at how things are divided,” Ulvaeus told Billboard over Zoom before his appointment became official. “It all starts with the song, as far as I’m concerned. ...

The Flaming Lips Share ‘Flowers of Neptune 6′

The Flaming Lips released a cover George Jones’ “He Stopped Loving Her Today” earlier this month in conjunction with Arkansas, a film that starred Liam Hemsworth and Vince Vaughn that aired on streaming platforms. Now, the Lips have shared a new song of their own. Titled “Flowers of Neptune 6,” the song is a bit low-key but has a dreamy element to it. This is their first original song since last year’s King’s Mouth: Music and Songs that was originally out on Record Store before getting a proper release in July. Earlier this year, the Lips joined forces with Deap Vally to form Deap Lips. The combined bands released an album of the same name way back in March. There should be no surprises here sonically — it sounds like a Flaming Lips song (which is a good thing). Listen ...

Killer Mike Urges ‘Black People and People of Color’ to Embrace Second Amendment in New Op-Ed

Killer Mike has long been a proponent of the second amendment, especially with regard to minority gun ownership. He took things a step further in an op-ed he wrote for Colorlines. The Run the Jewels rapper encouraged African-Americans and people of color to “to take seriously their Second Amendment rights” after the murder of Georgia jogger Ahmaud Arbery. “I put this statement out because the police cannot always get to you on time, and the world is not a just place. I also released these remarks because we cannot assume that everyone who wears a police uniform is just and fair,” he wrote. He continued by saying that minorities could only rely on themselves for protection and not law enforcement. “My message to Black people across the country is the same today as it was a year ago: th...

T.I. Responds Expediently To Donald Trump Utilizing His Music In Unsanctioned Contemporary Propaganda

Source: Bernard Smalls for iOne Digital / Bernard Smalls iOne Digital While America’s attention is rightfully focused on police brutality at the moment, one MC has not forgotten about Donald Trump’s thievery. As expected the King of the South has put him in his place. As reported earlier this week the Trump administration got their petty on with a goal of slighting de facto Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. The tactic repurposed T.I.’s hit song “Whatever You Like” to “I don’t want Joe Biden / don’t need Joe Biden”. Naturally, the clip landed on Tip’s desk and he made it clear that the POTUS violated both his artistic integrity and legal rights. The “Trap Back Jumpin” rapper’s team released a formal statement detailing his harsh opposition to the track being used by the liar in chi...
