Harry Styles, Coachella headliner Frank Ocean, Vampire Weekend and the Verve once had nothing in common. Well, now they do. Alt-rock quintet Switchfoot announced a new EP of covers this week — appropriately titled Covers – with the group’s first single, a rendition of Ocean’s 2011 Nostalgia, Ultra cut “Swim Good,” released today (May 29). The EP also comes complete with the groups’ takes on Styles’ top-20 single “Lights Up,” the Chainsmokers’ “Sick Boy,” Vampire Weekend’s “Harmony Hall,” the Verve’s “Lucky Man” and Jon Bellion’s “Stupid Deep.” Hey y’all! Hope you’re safe and healthy. During this strange, unsettling time of isolation, playing these cover songs have brought me a lot of joy. They have reminded me that the world’s a lot bigger than the four walls of my own perso...

Madonna is facing backlash on social media after sharing a tweet and Instagram video yesterday that many fans saw as distasteful. Following the death of George Floyd — the 46-year-old black man killed by a white Minneapolis police officer on May 25 — and the protests taking place in Minneapolis, the pop star posted a two-minute clip of her son David Banda dancing to Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us.” The tweet shows Banda, whom Madonna adopted from Malawi, showcasing Jackson’s moves from the 1995 music video. Madonna’s tweet reads “Brutal murder travels around the world my son David Dances to honor and pay tribute to George and His Family and all Acts of Racism and Discrimination that happen on a daily basis in America. #davidbanda #JusticeforGeorgeFloyd #MichaelJackson.” Many T...
As the tensions and protest grow in Minneapolis and the U.S., following the killing of George Floyd earlier this week, musicians have been sharing their thoughts about the current situation. The 1975’s Matt Healy wanted to do the same. However when he paired it with the band’s video for “Love It If We Made It,” it didn’t sit well with people in the Twitterverse, which then led the singer to deactivate his Twitter account altogether. “If you truly believe that ‘ALL LIVES MATTER’ you need to stop facilitating the end of black ones,” he wrote in the now-deleted tweet. Healy is known for sharing his unfiltered thoughts from his own struggles with addiction to the 2017 bombing in Manchester. After posting the tweet, he was accused of promoting his own work in the guise of the Black Lives Matter...
Source: Joe Sargent / Getty Felipe Vazquez has a problem. The currently suspended MLB pitcher is already in jail for a child sex case, and he’s been blessed with a new child porn charge out of St. Louis. Reportedly, back in July 19, Vazquez, 28, sent nude pics to a 15-year-old, and still managed to earn a save in a game that very same day. Reports Trib Live: St. Louis authorities on Thursday confirmed that suspended Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Felipe Vazquez is charged with sending pornographic pictures of himself to a minor last summer. Documents provided by the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office said Vazquez was charged in February with one count of furnishing pornographic materials to a juvenile, a Class A misdemeanor under Missouri state law. According to court records, police said the...
Source: George Floyd / Courtesy of Roxie Washington As the protests and riots over the murder of George Floyd continue in Minneapolis, more details continue to be revealed about the history of both Floyd and one of the killer cops, Derek Chauvin, and as it turns out they actually shared some backstory together. KSTP-TV is reporting that both Floyd and Chauvin actually worked security at the same south Minneapolis club at the same time for a minute before Chauvin eventually ended up taking Big Floyd‘s life. George Floyd and now-former Officer Derek Chauvin both worked security at the El Nuevo Rodeo club on Lake Street, according to Maya Santamaria. Santamaria owned the building for nearly two decades, but sold the venue within the last few months. “Chauvin was our off-duty police for ...
Happy Chromatica release day! On Friday (May 29), Lady Gaga finally unveiled her long-awaited sixth LP filled with euphoric pop banger after pop banger. Following the stripped-down dive bar singer-songwriter detour of 2016’s Joanne and the piano-driven balladry of 2018’s A Star Is Born soundtrack (notwithstanding the pop absurdism of “Why Did You Do That?” and “Hair Body Face”), Chromatica signals a return to the type of maximalist dance-pop that rocketed Gaga to superstardom in the late 2000s with early hits like “Poker Face,” “Bad Romance” and “Born This Way.” That return to form isn’t found solely in Chromatica‘s turbo-charged sonic palette, either. The superstar’s new album also finds her rev...
Concerts are slowly starting again, but they’re looking considerably different in the pandemic and many clubs are unsure whether they’re worth the risks. On May 18, TempleLive in Fort Smith, Arkansas, hosted one of the nation’s first socially-distanced concerts with country rock artist Travis McCready of the band Bishop Gunn. In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus promoters implemented extensive safety protocols: temperature checks at the door, masks on attendees and staff, limited bathroom occupancies and disinfecting fog sprayers, among them. The venue also had to keep each “fan pod” group of fans who arrived together at least six feet apart with one-way walkways and vigilant staff. It was an unusual sight for Getty Images photographer Kevin Mazur, who flew in from...
Everyone from Kirk Franklin to LeBron James and Katy Perry have praised the a cappella original. Keedron Bryant has given voice to what many people are feeling these days in the wake of the police-related death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The 12-year-old singer has drawn praise, and millions of views, for his moving a cappella performance of the original song “I Just Want to Live,” uploaded on Wednesday in the form of a simple video in which he passionately sings what it feels like to look like him in America right now. “I’m a young black man/ Doing all that I can/ To stand, oh but when I look around/ And I see what’s being done to my kind/ Every day, I’m being hunted as prey,” he sings, looking directly into the camera while performing the son...
