Dr Dre Believes George Floyd’s Death Will Incite Change

While activists take to the streets to protest the death of George Floyd, celebrities are using their platforms to educate fans and share ways to help seek justice. During a visit to Lil Wayne’s Young Money Radio Friday night, Dr. Dre expressed his feelings about the “extremely painful” murder of the unarmed black man who died after a police officer kneeled on his neck for over eight minutes. “It’s like, man, that situation, it hurt my heart. My heart is still aching,” the N.W.A./music mogul said. “And it felt like that cop had his knee on all of our necks, meaning black men. And yeah, it’s extremely painful. It’s extremely painful because it keeps going on. It continues to go on and it’s like, ‘What can we do? Or what do we need to do to make this thing stop? What is supposed to...

Although the demo did not fit the label, Dunmore seemed impressed by the submission and eager to stay in touch.  Years later, Calvin Harris has progressed from bedroom producer to the upper echelon of the both the dance music community and the mainstream. Despite t...

NPR Shares Over 100 Live Performances From 9:30 Club Archive

Since we have no idea when we’ll realistically be able to attend concerts again (at least, without hazmat suits), NPR is bringing the concerts to us. For nearly a dozen years, the radio station streamed shows from Washington D.C.’s iconic 9:30 Club, and now they’re sharing the entire archive with us as a way to celebrate the venue’s 40th anniversary (it opened on May 31, 1980). The streams range from NPR Music’s very first 9:30 Club show with Bright Eyes in 2005 to the station’s 10th anniversary party in 2017, featuring artists like Margo Price, Bon Iver, and Jeff Tweedy. Each piece in the vault comes equipped with streaming audio, and in later years video, along with the show’s original writeup. With more than 100 concerts to choose from, you might not be done digging by the tim...

Listen to Our Best 50 Songs of the Year So Far

Last week we shared our list of the 50 Best Songs of 2020 (So Far), and we’ve curated a playlist so you can listen to the standout bops of the year in a seamless fashion (you’re welcome). The list covers all musical ground, from the Dixie Chicks to the Used, Dua Lipa to Bob Dylan, Lizzo to TOKiMONSTA, and, let’s face it, is a great source of distraction during a year that seems to just get worse and worse as the months pass. Fiona Apple “confronts her internal strife, but doesn’t sink into it” in “Heavy Balloon” off her equally stunning album Fetch the Bolt Cutters, while Billie Eilish becomes the youngest artist to pen a James Bond theme song with “No Time to Die,” a song that features the 18-year-old’s “beyond-her-years soprano that tops a quietly haunted melody ...

Where Was the GT-R In Nissan’s New Product Blitz Hype Video?

It is not unreasonable to assume that, given the GT-R’s absence from Nissan’s high-profile roundup of upcoming products, that it might be on the chopping block. So, we reached out to Nissan for comment on the twin-turbo, giant-killing GT-R sports car’s future, and whether it will survive to join the automaker’s gaggle of new products. Here’s what we got in response: “Other than what appears in the video, we have no additional information to share at this time. GT-R is and remains an important part of our brand and DNA however nothing to share at this time beyond the 2020 Model Year.” That video covers everything Nissan is going to update until the 2023 fiscal year, we’re told, which leaves two possibilities for the GT-R’s place in the a...

Mark Your Calendars: The 2021 Ford F-150 Debuts on June 25

We haven’t seen many major new-vehicle reveals this year for obvious reasons, but a very big one is coming next month. On June 25, Ford will drop the covers on the next-generation F-150 pickup. Mike Levine, Ford’s North America product communications manager, shared the news on Twitter earlier today. We already know a lot about the 2021 Ford F-150, though. For one, the new truck will adopt design cues from the recently refreshed Ford F-Series Super Duty, as such expect the full-size F-150’s grille, hood, and lights to sport an appearance that mimics that of the bigger Blue Oval pickups. We also know the upcoming F-150 will sit on a new frame that supports a plug-in gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. It’s likely the F-150’s hybrid variant won’t be ready...

“What’s going on, Boston?” Dropkick Murphys‘ lead singer and bassist Ken Casey shouted in Boston’s Red Sox Fenway Park on Friday night (May 29)–but this time, instead of thousands of fans cheering back, the ballpark was empty. Streaming Outta Fenway, the two-hour concert by the Celtic punk band, marks the first time a musical performance has ever taken place at an empty major U.S. arena, stadium or ballpark. The show was put on to raise funds for the Boston Resiliency Fund, Habitat For Humanity and Feeding America. Even with no audience, the band rocked out to a number of their hits, wrapping the show by welcoming The Boss himself, Bruce Springsteen, on the jumbotron. “You’re making us all look old!” Casey j...
