Nike Makes Juneteenth An Annual Paid Holiday

It was bound to happen. In an internal memo, Nike has revealed that it will be recognizing Juneteenth as an annual paid holiday. In recent years, Juneteenth has become more prominent as a celebration of June 19, 1865 (not that long ago), when the Emancipation Proclamation was read to freed African-Americans in Texas by General Gordon Granger. Mind you, the Emancipation Proclamation was issued over a year prior on January 1, 1863. Texas was the last Confederate state to have proclamation announced after the conclusion of the Civil War in 1865. Ever since, June 19 or Freedom Day or Juneteenth has been a day of celebration that has only grown throughout the years. In lieu of Black Lives Matter becoming a rallying cry for the continued pursuit of racial justice, it’s only a matter of time befo...

#BreonnaTaylor: Breonna’s Law Passed, Bans No-Knock Warrants In Louisville

Source: AGUSTIN PAULLIER / Getty The hands of justice have moved ever so slightly in favor of Breonna Taylor and her family, this after a law named after her passed Thursday night (June 11). Known as “Breonna’s Law,” the legislation effectively bans no-knock warrants in the city of Louisville, but the officers who killed the 26-year-old have yet to face consequences. As reported by local outlet Louisville Courier-Journal, the Metro Council voted unanimously in favor of passing the law with Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer stating ahead of time that he planned to sign it into law with no objections. Taylor, whose birthday recently passed, was shot by Louisville Metro Police on March 13, Tayor’s apartment was targeted as part of a narcotics investigation and after entering the home, the officer...

Watch Robyn Use a Selfie Stick to Rock Out to “Dancing On My Own” in Quarantine Video

A little over ten years ago, the music world was rocked when Robyn released “Dancing On My Own.” The song would go on to become an unofficial anthem for the LGBTQ+ community, universally uniting those who’ve felt cast away to the shadows through the themes of isolation and loneliness. To this day you can’t go to a Pride parade and not hear this track being belt out by the masses. The song now comes with a different meaning due to the unwavering stay at home ordinances in place amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and its beauty has now been reignited by the queen herself. She recently shared a quarantine video, which is directed by Crille Forsberg, Maria ‘Decida’ Wahlberg, and Robyn herself, in which she performs “Dancing On My Own”...

Nicki Minaj Continues To Defend Working With Tekashi 6ix9ine, Says Rappers Hating Ain’t Built Like That

Source: @nickiminaj / Instagram The Hip-Hop culture was dismayed and even offended that Nicki Minaj would decide to once again work with known government informant, Tekashi 6ix9ine, but if we’ve learned anything about Nicki these last few years it’s that she could give two f*cks about what her fans have to say. During an IG Live session with Tekashi, Nicki explained that she understood why people felt the way they felt about snitching “because they lived that life,” but also feels that “rappers need to play it easy” because they love talking it but ain’t living it. After suggesting that a street rapper would have no problem signing a record deal with a “rat executive,” Nicki went on to say “let’s be clear when we talk about rappers versus street n*ggas. It’s rappers that put guns they ain’...

Source: photo: Instagram Last month we reported that Young Buck had filed for bankruptcy in what appeared to be a last minute effort to avoid paying 50 Cent and G-Unit money owed from previous dealings. Now in documents obtained by Bossip we’re getting a clearer picture of Buck’s financial situation and it is not pretty for the man who once tried to teach us how to ball. Aside from saying he’s relying on his current girlfriend for financial support,  also revealed that he owed $50,239 to the IRS and another $106,000 in child support to two baby mamas in both Georgia and Tennessee. And unfortunately his only source of income stem from past mixtape sales (not albums) which could barely cover a years worth of rent in most states. He lists that his only source of income this year was...

Tuner Hacks Tesla Model 3, Unlocks 50 Extra HP

We all know that Tesla can update its cars “over the air,” meaning via a wireless internet data connection. Even though the tech is getting standardized across the industry, Tesla is one of the few companies that can do things like add driving range or power via a software update, unlocking electronically cordoned-off battery capacity or energy distribution. Your Tesla can always get better, it seems, but not only by Tesla’s hand. That’s right—a Canadian company is now offering its own squirts of extra performance for the Model 3 sedan by way of software updates of its own, and for less than half the price Tesla charges its customers for a similar boost. According to Elektrek, a Canadian company called Ingenext has found a way to unlock an extra 50 horsepower from a...

Todrick Hall on Having to Work ‘Three Times’ Harder Than White Artists to Find Success

Todrick Hall is glad that he’s made it, but he has some thoughts on the effort it took for him to get to where he is now. In a new exclusive clip from Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter’s Pride Summit & Pride Prom, the cover star of Billboard‘s Pride issue talks with Pose executive producer Steven Canals about the advice he received during his first Broadway stint in 2005’s The Color Purple. Hall says that the experienced Broadway actors he got to work with in the show gave him a wake-up call about the reality of show business for queer man of color. “They straight up told me, ‘In order for you to make it in this industry, you have to be three times as talented as your white counterparts,'” he recalls. “[They sa...
