Newcastle United post healthy financial results despite taking hit in pandemic

Newcastle United posted their 2019/20 financial results and boasted better numbers than the majority of Premier League clubs despite the disruption from Covid-19, says Swiss Ramble on Twitter. The Magpies posted a £26m loss (£23m after tax), considerably down from their £41m pre-tax profit from the previous year, but they did a lot better than most sides. United’s revenue fell to £152.6m, which was down 14% (£23.8m) from 2018/19. Expenses went up by £45m (28%), but the profit on player sales rose by £2m to £26m. Swiss Ramble notes that Newcastle’s suffered a big revenue loss from broadcasting, directly affected by the pandemic – the Toon Army lost £18m (14%) from the previous year’s total of £124m. Matchday revenue also slumped unsurprisingly. They posted £24.8m in 2018/19 and £17.4m in 20...

‘An absolute steal’, ‘Absolute bargain’ – Some NUFC fans react to reports regarding 21-yr-old target

Newcastle United have agreed a fee in the region of £25 million for Joe Willock. The Magpies have reached an agreement with Arsenal but still need to finalise personal terms with the midfielder. The 21-year-old was on loan at Newcastle last season and made a lasting impression with his performances. Steve Bruce was keen to bring him back to the club permanently, and the fans will be delighted to see that Newcastle have agreed to pay for his services. Willock had an outstanding loan spell at St James’ Park, scoring in seven consecutive matches for the Magpies. The youngster has the potential to develop into a top-class Premier League midfielder and has the talent to justify his price tag in the coming years. Newcastle needed to add more creativity and goals to their midfield, and the signin...

Newcastle linked with a summer move for versatile 22-yr-old midfielder

Newcastle United are keen on signing Brazilian midfielder Ederson this summer. According to Globo Esporte, Corinthians are currently waiting for an official bid from the Premier League club. The Brazilian outfit are under financial pressure, which could help Newcastle get the signing across the line in the coming weeks. The Magpies need greater creativity in their midfield, and Ederson could prove to be a wise investment. The 22-year-old bagged two goals and three assists across all competitions last season. He would bring some much-needed physicality to Newcastle’s midfield and would be an upgrade on most of their current options. Ederson can play in multiple positions, and his versatility would be extremely handy for manager Steve Bruce. The Newcastle boss is working with a limited budge...

Newcastle United leading Aston Villa in race to sign versatile £50,000-a-week defender – report

Newcastle United are favourites ahead of Aston Villa to secure a loan deal for Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe, Football Insider reports. The centre-back has been tipped to leave on a season-long loan after the club’s deal to sign Raphael Varane, and he was recently tipped to join Villa. However, it is now reported that the Magpies are leading the race, with manager Steve Bruce prepared to assure Tuanzebe a regular starting role. The deal is still not straightforward as they may need to pay a multi-million loan fee and agree to pay his weekly wages that are likely to rise. He is currently on around £50,000-a-week. He has been fancied to sign a new long-term contract before heading out on loan this summer. Sportslens view: Tuanzebe was United’s fourth-choice centre-back last s...

Report: Newcastle in contact to sign £12m PL player, club have made decision

Newcastle United are reportedly in contact to sign Liverpool defender Nathaniel Phillips this summer, according to The Athletic. The centre-back cemented his place into the first-team last season, with the club struggling with a raft of injuries to key players. The Reds lost Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joe Matip for almost the entire season. The likes of Phillips and Rhys Williams played out of their skins to help Liverpool qualify for the Champions League. However, Liverpool have bolstered their defence with the big-money signing of Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig. With the rest of the senior defenders returning from injury, Phillips is expected to drop down the pecking order. The 24-year-old established himself as an accomplished Premier League defender last season and now needs to pl...

Newcastle keen on playmaker who impressed in the Championship last season

Newcastle United are keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp, as per Daily Mail. The 20-year-old is unlikely to get regular game time at the London club, and a loan move would be ideal for him next season. The Magpies need to add more imagination and craft in the middle of the park, and Skipp could be a superb short term addition. Newcastle loaned Joe Willock from Arsenal last season, and the youngster made a big impression under Steve Bruce. The Magpies will be hoping for a similar impact from Skipp if they sign him. Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing Willock permanently, but a loan deal for Skipp may be viewed as a more cost-effective option. Skipp is highly talented and has a big future ahead of him. He will be hoping to continue his development with first-team f...

Newcastle have been offered the chance to sign 28-year-old Spaniard this summer

Newcastle United have been offered the chance to sign Mariano Diaz from Real Madrid. The 28-year-old is unwanted at the Spanish club, and they are looking to raise funds through the sales of their fringe players. Newcastle need attacking reinforcements this summer, and Mariano could be a useful addition to their squad. According to Jeunes Footeux, the Magpies are keeping tabs on the player, but he is not a priority target for them. The Real Madrid attacker has scored just six goals in his last three seasons and has struggled for regular game time. He enjoyed a prolific year with Lyon before joining Madrid and clearly has the ability to be a regular goalscorer if given the chance. Mariano needs to join a club where he can play first-team football, and a move to St James’ Park seems ide...

‘Would be a terrific signing’ – Some Newcastle fans react to links with 67-cap international

Juventus midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been linked with a return to the Premier League in recent months. According to Goal.com, Newcastle have now asked about the 67-cap Welsh international and are keen on bringing him back to England. The discussions between the two clubs have been informal, and they are yet to engage in transfer talks. The 30-year-old has a contract with the Italian club until 2023, but he is not a key player for them and a return to the Premier League could be ideal. Ramsey played just 22 league games for the Turin giants this past season. His move to Juventus has not worked out as expected, with Ramsey struggling to showcase his peak form in Italian football. Newcastle need more depth and quality in central midfield and Ramsey would be a superb addition to the squad. Ste...

Newcastle United interested in signing former Arsenal star

Newcastle United are exploring the possibility of signing Aaron Ramsey from Juventus. According to Goal, the Magpies have enquired about the player’s availability as they look to bolster their midfield this summer. The Welshman has not had the best of times in Italy. He was brought into the side to add creativity, but the former Arsenal ace has netted just six times in all competitions for the Bianconeri. Under Maurizio Sarri, Ramsey was asked to play as a classic number ten but struggled in the role, particularly with his back to goal. “Ramsey needs to see more of the pitch in front of him, or he gets a little lost,” Sarri admitted in an interview with Sky Sport Italia in February last year. Sarri on Ramsey: “He maintains that he needs to see more of the pitch in front of ...

‘Glad i gave up my season ticket’ – Some NUFC fans react to reports regarding Steve Bruce’s future

Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce is set to be handed a new three-year contract at the club. According to Daily Star, Newcastle owner Mike Ashley wants to reward Bruce with a new contract for keeping the club in the Premier League last season. Bruce has been an unpopular figure at St James’s Park since his appointment, with the fans calling for his dismissal for a while now. The 60-year-old’s current deal expires in 2022, but he has the backing of the club hierarchy. Newcastle have not progressed under Bruce, with their 12th place finish last season masking a largely underwhelming campaign. They flirted with relegation for most of the season but eventually scrambled away from the danger zone. A club of their stature should be looking to finish in the top half every year, and their curre...
