Stone Temple Pilots Announce Tiny Music 25th Anniversary Box Set

The Stone Temple Pilots album with the extremely long name has become even longer. To celebrate the iconic grunge record’s 25th anniversary, the band is releasing a special box set titled, Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop: Super Deluxe Edition. In addition to a remastered version of the 1996 classic that spawned hits like “Big Bang Baby” and “Lady Picture Show”, the package comes with two discs full of unreleased material. One features demos, instrumentals, and unreleased takes of almost every song on Tiny Music, as well as a never-before-heard track called “Kretz’s Acoustic Song”. Now they’ve tapped Barney the Dinosaur to help promote the latest single, “S.H.M. (Second Hand Misery)”. The song’s music video syncs old VHS clips of the big purple dinosaur with the ferocious street metal of Warish, creating an absurdly hilarious combination. The 13-song tracklist showcases Monster Magnet’s esoteric knowledge of obscure psych rock. They take on Hawkwind (“Born to Go”), cult NYC heavy psych act Dust (“Learning to Die”)”, The Pretty Things (“Death”), and The Scientists (“Solid Gold Hell”), among other relatively obscure gems. The idea for the covers album came after Monster Magnet’s European “Powertrip” tour was halted in February of 2020 when the pandemic hit.
