The Glitch Mob Reconnect With Early Rave Influences On Fourth Album, “CTRL ALT REALITY”

With their fourth studio album, CTRL ALT REALITY, The Glitch Mob are resetting expectations.  The tenured electronic trio have always been very deliberate with their creative output. So when they returned with the announcement of their first album since 2018’s See Without Eyes,  there was an immediate interest in how their latest chapter would unfold.  The band spurred even more intrigue when they offered up a rather conceptual creative thesis. “This next chapter in our artistry is intended to get back to the music, the movement, the dance, the connection of body & sound,” the group tweeted in September. “We are here to provide an audio experience you feel deep in your soul.” As with their prior long-form projects, it’s apparent that t...

Mason Talbot Drops Soulful House Anthem, “Lookin’ For”

In the midst of a breakout year, Mason Talbot has poured gasoline on the hype with a stunning new single, “Lookin’ For.” It’s easy to hear why renowned house music producers like MK, Hannah Wants and Lee Foss have been supporting the young beatsmith. “Lookin’ For” is minimal in nature, but resounding in its arrangement and sound design. It’s soulful house music at its finest, bursting at its seams with radiant U.K. influences and visceral sound design. It’s easy to get hypnotized by the track’s bluesy vocals at first listen, but its real pièce de résistance is its bassline. Talbot produces a thick low end here, one that you can feel in your bones as it runs roughshod through thumping drums. It all points to yet another scintillati...

Listen: Gorillaz Recruit Dom Dolla for Massive Remix of “New Gold”

Back in August, Gorillaz released their single “New Gold” alongside Tame Impala and Bootie Brown. The second single off their forthcoming album, Cracker Island, the track offers a psychedelic twist on the iconic band’s classic indietronica sound. Now, house music superstar Dom Dolla has been selected for an official remix, which is out now. It’s rare for Gorillaz to recruit remixers—save for a 2020 remix by Robert Smith, the last time was over four years ago. The remix begins with atmospheric vocal chops, which layer over Parker’s hypnotic vocals for a blissful, floating effect. Brown’s unapologetic verses then enter the fray before a tense build, which culminates in an anthemic tech house drop. It’s a signature Dolla record and one that doubles as a car...

Honey Dijon’s Entrancing Sophomore Album Is Here: Listen to “Black Girl Magic”

Honey Dijon has finally released her highly anticipated Black Girl Magic album.  Featuring collaborations with boundary-breaking artists like Channel Tres and Pabllo Vittar, among others, Black Girl Magic interpolates spoken word soliloquies with pulsing sound design and unapologetic lyricism. The album opens with “Love Is,” a record which defines its entire purpose and concept: love. The ensuing track, “Love Is a State of Mind,” picks up the tempo with a brisk four-on-the-floor house groove and acid house-inspired synths. Dancing up to “In The Club,” Dijon’s sound gets more nostalgic. Fluttering, filtered synths and a palpitating bassline carry us right into Eve’s warm vocals.  Honey Dijon. It’s now officially hit streaming platforms. Like stepping into a monochromatic world crafted by M.C. Escher, “Say What” is G Jones and ISOxo at their very best. “The song ‘Say What’ started off as a beat challenge that I did a few years ago,” explained ISOxo, who was named to EDM.com‘s Class of 2022 earlier this year. “I wanted to make a G Jones-type beat when creating the track, little did I know that years later he would actually ...
