Griselda Records Announce Conflicted Feature Film and Soundtrack

Griselda Records is breaking into the movie business. The hip-hop collective and record label has announced that a debut feature film called Conflicted is on the way, as is the stacked soundtrack that will accompany it. Check out the official trailer below. According to a press release, Conflicted is an “urban tale” depicting Benny the Butcher as a Buffalo gangster named Hunter who struggles to do right after being released from prison. Faced with the dilemmas of his fresh start, Hunter declares he will never to go back to the game that cost him his freedom. In the process of getting back on track, though, he falls in love and is inevitably confronted with the demons of his past. All of this leaves Butcher feeling — wait for it — conflicted. Conflicted is directed by AK Reed, written by De...

Willie Nelson Announces Frank Sinatra-Inspired Album That’s Life

Ol’ Blue Eyes and the Red Headed Stranger are together again. Two years after Willie Nelson released the Frank Sinatra tribute album My Way, the legendary singer is once again honoring his musical hero with 11 new covers on That’s Life. It’s out February 26th via Legacy Recordings. These classics and standards were recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, where Sinatra was famously the first artist to step up to the mic. Afterwards, the final dotting of I’s and crossing of T’s took place at Pedernales Studios in Austin, Texas. Buddy Cannon and Matt Rollings produced, and while Nelson sings solo on ten of the songs, he’s joined by Grammy-winning vocalist Diana Krall for a duet of “I Won’t Dance”. Nelson and Sinatra were close friends for many years. In the 1980s Sinatra opened for Nelson a...

Steve Earle Shares Cover of Justin Townes Earle’s “Champagne Corolla”: Stream

Steve Earle has shared a new cover of the Justin Townes Earle single “Champagne Corolla”. It’s the latest preview of J.T., the tribute album he’s releasing next year in honor of his late son. “Champagne Corolla” was originally written by Justin for his 2017 album Kids in the Street. It’s a bold number that lets his wobbly electric guitar riffs snake over bass drum and explosive horns. Throughout, he sings about a mysterious girl who drives the eponymous car, a vehicle choice that he believes gives her an air of brains, charm, and logic. For his cover version, Steve Earle takes a similar approach with help from his bandmates The Dukes, who appear on the rest of the album as well. After turning down the rhythm section and turning up his vocals, Earle drags out his southern drawl, giving each...

Chris Cornell’s Estate Releases New Covers Album No One Sings Like You Anymore: Stream

On behalf of Chris Cornell’s estate, the late rocker’s wife Vicky Cornell and her children, Toni and Christopher, have released a new album of cover songs recorded by Cornell. It’s called No One Sings Like You Anymore and it’s available to stream right now via Apple Music and Spotify below. No One Sings Like You Anymore is a collection of 10 cover songs handpicked by Cornell himself. The Soundgarden singer recorded and sequenced the tracks back in 2016 as a way to honor the artists who inspired him, such as John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Harry Nilsson, and Electric Light Orchestra. A physical release is expected to drop on March 19th, with pre-orders currently ongoing. The album includes several staples from Cornell’s solo career, like his take on Lorraine Ellison’s “Stay With Me Baby” for the...

Chris Cornell’s Estate Releases Covers Album No One Sings Like You Anymore

In his later years, Chris Cornell covered an eclectic array of artists and took these familiar songs and made them his own. Earlier this year, his cover of Guns N’ Roses’ “Patience” flew up the charts and now, there’s a full album along with it. Titled No One Sings Like You Anymore, this collection of songs was recorded in 2016 and serves as Cornell’s final completed studio album.  The singer handpicked the 10 cover songs to celebrate artists and songs that inspired him. Cornell sequenced the record, which was mixed and produced by Brendan O’Brien. In addition to “Patience” and the previously released cover of Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U,” Cornell tackles songs by John Lennon, Janis Joplin, Harry Nilsson, Electric Light Orchestra and more. “This album is so special because it ...

Dave Grohl Kicks Off Hanukkah Sessions with Cover of Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”: Watch

Hanukkah officially begins today, and with it brings the launch of The Hanukkah Sessions, a new song series from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and Grammy-winning producer Greg Kurstin. The project sees the pair covering one Jewish musician every night of the eight-day holiday. For the first installment, Grohl and Kurstin take on Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage”. While the two don’t celebrate Hanukkah the same way — Kurstin is Jewish, Grohl is not — you wouldn’t know it from the intensity of their performance. The duo’s chemistry is also readily apparent, no doubt a result of the time they spent together recording Foos’ 2017 album, Concrete and Gold. Watch their collaborative cover below. As the Festival of Lights doesn’t conclude until Friday, December 18th, there’s plenty more Hanukk...

Dave Grohl and Greg Kurstin Cover Beastie Boys’ ‘Sabotage’ for First Night of Hanukkah

A menorah, latkes, dreidels… and now a new tradition, a song by Jewish artists covered by Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters producer Greg Kurstin for each night of Hanukkah. To kick off their Hanukkah Sessions, the duo covered the Beastie Boys’ “Sabotage.” “As the only Rock and Roll Hall Of Famers with a lyric about kugel, we thought it would be a shanda to not kick off this party with New York’s (and Abraham’s) finest…known by some as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abedenego known by their Imas & Abbas as @beastieboys!” a tweet from the Foo Fighters account says. [embedded content] The duo dropped a promo yesterday (Dec. 10, the night before Hanukkah). “This year, instead of doing a Christmas song, this year, Greg and I decided to celebrate Hanukkah by recording eight songs by eight famou...

Haley Williams Shares Stripped-Down Version of “Simmer” from New Acoustic EP: Stream

Hayley Williams is following up one of our favorite albums of 2020, her debut solo record Petals for Armor, with a new three-song EP called Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades. Today the Paramore singer is previewing the effort with an acoustic rendition of one of the year’s best songs, “Simmer”. The original take on the track features all sorts of cool percussion and layered vocal harmonies, but this stripped-back version is pretty much the complete opposite. The extremely stark performance contains just light guitar plucks and Williams’ whispery croon, which builds nicely toward the end but never raises to a genuine belt. In fact, it’s so quiet that Williams’ dog Alf even made an accidental guest appearance on the recording. “If you listen closely you can hear Alf sigh dramatically in the o...

Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) and Richie Kotzen Form New Outfit, Unveil “Taking My Chances”: Stream

Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith and veteran rocker Richie Kotzen have joined forces for the new blues-rock project Smith/Kotzen. In announcing the new outfit, the pair have unveiled their debut single, “Taking My Chances”. Longtime friends and colleagues, Smith and Kotzen are a formidable guitar pairing and prove as much on the new song. This ain’t Maiden, but rather a love letter to the electric blues. Smith and Kotzen share a mutual love of the genre that can be traced back through the years, like the time Smith played and sang a cover of Cream’s iconic “Crossroads” at one of Kotzen’s birthday parties. A natural chemistry can be heard on “Taking My Chances”. “I think Richie and I complement each other really well,” Smith said in a press release. “He’s a virtuoso guitarist, but he...

Hayley Williams Shares Acoustic Version of ‘Simmer’ From Upcoming EP

Hayley Williams has a new EP, Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades, arriving on Dec. 18. From that intimate three-song collection, Williams has shared a poignant, stripped-down version of “Simmer.” Her acoustic vocals-and-guitar take was reworked from the version on Petals for Armor, her self-titled debut, which dropped May 8 and is one of our best albums of the year. In addition to “Simmer,” Self-Serenades also features the unreleased “Find Me Here” and “Why We Ever” from Petals for Armor. Of ‘”Simmer,” “If you listen closely, you can hear Alf [Hayley’s dog] sigh dramatically in the opening line. Like mother, like son,” Williams wrote on Twitter. Check out the tune below. Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou Announce New EP, Cover the Cranberries’ “Hollywood”: Stream

Emma Ruth Rundle and Thou have announced a new surprise collaborative EP titled The Helm of Sorrow, which arrives January 15th via Sacred Bones. They’ve also shared new cover of The Cranberries‘ “Hollywood” and a separate short, “Elysian Fields”, created by Thou’s Mitch Wells. The four-song EP includes B-sides from the excellent 2020 album from Rundle and Thou, May Our Chambers Be Full. In fact, the tracks were included on Sacred Bones’ “diehard” edition of the Chambers, but will receive a widespread release as The Helm of Sorrow, a suitably metal title. The cover of “Hollywood” is as captivating as anything we’ve heard from the pairing. Perhaps the artists or label realized these songs were too good to languish on a limited, exclusive release. No complaints here. A far cry from the origin...

Amigo the Devil Premieres Video for New Song “Another Man’s Grave”: Watch

Amigo the Devil recently announced his sophomore full length album, Born Against. Now, the folk-rock troubadour is teaming up with Consequence of Sound to premiere the video for the LP’s first single, “Another Man’s Grave”. With “Another Man’s Grave”, Amigo continues his foray into dark Americana. Despite his music’s acoustic foundation, the songs have also resonated with metal and hard rock audiences, as he’s shared the stages with several heavy acts over the past few years. “This is very much a coming to terms song,” Amigo says of the new single. “It’s the realization that the habits and routine we’ve been living, the behaviors, and outlook displayed aren’t true to the person that we know exists somewhere within. It’s about the purgatory-like time between accepting this and the moment we...
