Fucked Up Go Long on New 22-Minute Song “Year of the Horse – Act Three”: Stream

Fucked Up have released “Year of the Horse — Act Three”, the third track off the Toronto punk band’s upcoming EP celebrating the Chinese Zodiac. Stream it via Bandcamp below. “Year of the Horse — Act Three” clocks in at a whopping 22 minutes (!) and is structured like a play. It’s theatrical and dramatic — which is par for the course so far with this EP, considering it comes with extensive liner notes — and sees singers Maegan Brooks Mills and Tuka Mohammed sharing their duties with frontman Damian Abraham. Unlike the first and second tracks from Year of the Horse, though, this new act features vocals by a surprise guest: Matt Berninger of The National. Needless to say, it makes for an unexpected listen. As per tradition, Year of the Horse is part of Fucked Up’s ongoing series tied to...

Mdou Moctar Releases New Song “Afrique Victime”: Stream

Tuareg psych-rock artist Mdou Moctar is one of the best guitarists of this current era, and he’s back with more new music up his sleeve. Moctar has released the title track from his upcoming album Afrique Victime, due out May 21st via Matador, along with a black-and-white music video that splices live performance scenes together. Stream it below. This is the second single Mdou Moctar has shared from Afrique Victime, following “Tala Tannam”. This new seven-minute rallying cry sees him knead a pulsing groove and mesmerizing guitar riff into a foundation that stabilizes his mournful chants. “The wind born in Tunisia spread all over Arabia/ Africa is a victim of so many crimes,” he sings. “If we stay silent it will be the end of us/ Why is this happening?” It’s dizzying and powerful ...

The Voidz Share New Song “The Eternal Tao 2.0”: Stream

Julian Casablancas is back with a new(ish) track from The Voidz. It’s called “The Eternal Tao 2.0” and it came paired with a major league (hint hint) collaboration. In 2019, The Voidz released a one-off single called “The Eternal Tao”, which was a wacky psych-pop track that featured Casablancas singing through a vocoder and production from Mac DeMarco. Now, the New York band has released a “2.0” version of the track that’s nearly two minutes longer. Even weirder, the song was featured in an official opening day promo video for the New York Mets, which their channel SNY posted on their official YouTube page. Casablancas is a longtime Mets fanatic and he’s a very popular musician from the Big Apple, so a collaboration between the two entities isn’t that far out of left field. ...

Demi Lovato Releases New Album Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over: Stream

Demi Lovato has just released Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over, her first new album in four years. Stream it below via Apple Music and Spotify. Clocking in just under an hour, Dancing with the Devil… the Art of Starting Over spans 19 songs in total, including the previously released singles “Anyone”, “What Other People Say” with Sam Fischer, and the title track “Dancing with the Devil”. Dancing with the Devil… was written around the time of Lovato’s tragic drug overdose, and as such it sees Lovato touching upon themes of resilience, self-help, and friendship — the latter of which is emphasized through collaborations with Ariana Grande (“Met Him Last Night”), Saweetie (“My Girl...

BROCKHAMPTON Share New Single “COUNT ON ME”: Stream

BROCKHAMPTON season continues. The hip-hop boy band are back with another new song called “COUNT ON ME”, available for streaming below via Apple Music or Spotify. The track is the second preview from their upcoming album ROADRUNNER: NEW LIGHT, NEW MACHINE, which is due out in full on April 9th. Last week, they gave us our first taste of the album with a joyfully chaotic new single called “Buzzcut” that featured Danny Brown. “COUNT ON ME” takes things in a more straightforwardly melodic direction, offering the type of bright hook that was absent on the fiery “Buzzcut”. While teasing the song on Twitter, Kevin Abstract described it as “summer time vibes.” “Ride around with the windows down with ya best friend singing super loud to the chorus type vibe – shows the other si...

Tetrarch Unleash Heavy New Song “Negative Noise” Ahead of Upcoming Album Unstable: Stream

Rising nu-metal revivalists Tetrarch will unveil their new album, Unstable, on April 30th. Ahead of its release, the Atlanta outfit has unleashed the heavy new single “Negative Noise”. The new track has been preceded by the singles “I’m Not Right” and “You Never Listen”, which have each garnered more than 1 million views on YouTube. While those songs gave off vibes similar to Korn and Linkin Park, “Negative Noise” is a much heavier affair, calling to mind the more extreme end of the nu-metal spectrum — with a definite nod to Slipknot. “‘Negative Noise’ is one of the heaviest songs on the new record,” stated frontman Josh Fore. “It mixes big riffs with thick bass, extreme drums and some of the most intense screams I’ve ever done. One of the highlights of the song is Diamond [Rowe]’s guitar ...

Godspeed You! Black Emperor Release New Album G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!: Stream

Canadian post-rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor return today with their new album G_d’s Pee AT STATE’S END!. Stream it below via Bandcamp. Whereas the band’s previous album, 2017’s Luciferian Towers, went without ambient interludes in favor of softer climaxes, this follow-up effort sees GY!BE turning crackling analog sounds into inescapable thunderstorms. The album is fixated on unease, anxiety, paranoia, and the long space of time that occurs when you’re waiting for what’s next — ideally something better — in life. “this record is about all of us waiting for the end,” the band wrote in a statement. “all current forms of governance are failed. this record is about all of us waiting for the beginning, and is informed by the following demands= empty the prisons take power fro...

Last month, composer Danny Elfman shared his latest solo song, “Kick Me”. Now, the 67-year-old musician has teamed up with Death Grips drummer and producer Zach Hill for a new remix. Hill’s version transforms the alternative rock sound of the original with a swirling cacophony of percussion and synths. It’s a complete reimagining of the track which will satisfy fans of Death Grips’ and Elfman’s previous singles alike. “I was a big fan of Death Grips and Zach Hill’s work, and so appreciative to have him jump in with his creative energy,” Elfman said in a press release. “Kick Me” arrived in March on the heels of January’s “Sorry” and February’s “Love in the Time of COVID”, following through on Elfman’s promise to release a new song every month this year. Dropkick Murphys have offered another taste of their new album, Turn Up That Dial, ahead of its April 30th release. The punk-rock veterans have unveiled the new song “Queen of Suffolk County”. The new track follows the single “Middle Finger”, which arrived with the album’s announcement in late February. “Queen of Suffolk County” opens with the voice of a newscaster announcing the arrest of a Suffolk County woman who was arrested for a stabbing outside a bar. The song then proceeds to tell the story of the knife-wielding femme fatale, with lines like, “You best stay out of her way/ She don’t joke, and she don’t play.” The Massachusetts-based Celtic punkers recently performed a St. Patrick’s Day livestream that garnered more than 1 million views, landing at No. 1 on Pollstar’s livestream cha...
