Get Lost In a Musical Cosmos With Darius’ Scintillating Sophomore Album, “OASIS”

Five years after releasing his debut album Utopia, Darius has finally graced fans with another studio album, OASIS—and it’s a doozy.  Staying true to his signature, euphonic sound that we all know and love, Darius still manages to bring a fresh perspective to his work in OASIS. Featuring far more vocal tracks than 2017’s predecessor, Utopia, the Roche Musique producer continues to enrapture the mind, delight the senses and inspire the body to dance with funky, ethereal beats.  Though there are only five instrumental songs out of 14 total, it’s these tracks, which are devoid of lyrics, that anchor the record. “WINTER SADNESS” is an uncharacteristically slow-burning, languid jam with a bluesy cadence, while “GRAND LARGE” evokes classic Darius with upbe...

Swardy Announces New Album and Animated Short, “Compact Objects”

If you aren’t listening to Swardy yet, let this be your wakeup call. Next month, fans will hear a new album from the the imaginative producer and puppeteer, one of the most criminally underrated artists in the electronic music scene. Just in time to brighten up our summer is Compact Objects, a new LP from Swardy. In a similar vein to his whimsical video content, the album announcement featured a handmade set and puppet. Sadly, the teaser trailer doesn’t reveal much beyond the album’s release date, June 7th. The lyrics “guessing it’s over now” repeat as delicate keys flutter through to the clip’s end, when Swardy’s animated mascot steps into a TV screen dimension.  Swardy’s upcoming album is the follow-up to 2020’s beautiful P...

Listen to Whethan’s Stunning Sophomore Album, “Midnight”

Queue this one up on your car speakers and prepare to be taken on a ride.  Out April 29th via Atlantic Records, Whethan‘s MIDNIGHT album is a stunning sophomore showing, proving in only nine tracks and 27 minutes that its critically acclaimed predecessor, FANTASY, was only the tip of his ever-enlarging iceberg of imagination. “[It’s] going to be a totally different side of me you haven’t heard before,” Whethan had promised in January. Just hit play on its booming opening track, “LOCK IT UP” (with Yeat, midwxst and Matt Ox) and you’ll immediately notice the growth. Quirky, dance pop-minded sound design has been traded out with swells of rap (“OUT THE WINDOW” with Overpade), hyperpop (“MENTAL”...

Hardwell Conjures “BLACK MAGIC” In Fourth Single From “Rebels Never Die” Album

Hardwell‘s forthcoming REBELS NEVER DIE album continues to unfurl with the producer conjuring up another menacing single, “BLACK MAGIC.”  Hardwell’s comeback saga has been nothing short of a subversion of expectations. His reveal of an ominous new aesthetic and his techno-laden set to close out Ultra Music Festival spoke volumes as to where he sees his future.  Hot off the release of the album’s heated third single, “F*CKING SOCIETY,” Hardwell continues to storm the gates with another thumping track, “BLACK MAGIC.” The song’s twangy bassline forges a spirited rhythm as the broader sonic spectrum unfolds into a melodically dense concoction of reverberating synths and cinematic strings.  Scroll to Conti...

Eric Hilton of Thievery Corporation Announces Solo Trip-Hop Album, “Lost Dialect” [Exclusive]

From acid jazz and reggae to downtempo and bossa nova, Eric Hilton explored it all as one half of renowned electronic music duo Thievery Corporation.  Yet as a solo artist, Hilton’s true love lies with trip-hop. It’s a genre he helped to create with a pioneering approach to sound design, highlighted by ingenious sampling, moody synths and psychedelic lo-fi.  Now Hilton is taking an opportunity to revisit these roots with his newly announced Lost Dialect album, the titular track of which is out now. It’s a 10-track opus that, according to Hilton, consciously brought him back to his “early days” of producing trip-hop when he was “combining sample collages with grooves,” he tells EDM.com. For the grooves, Hilton self-recorded all o...

Spanning 11 tracks, Sentio is flush with cadence and crescendos, oscillating between poignant anthems and electro bangers with attitude. Garrix says he produced the album during the global lockdown period, and after seeing its...

“Feel Safe to Be Yourself”: How SOFI TUKKER’s Sophomore Album Speaks to the Power of Positivity

What do Larry Bird, tennis, and persimmons have in common? They’re three of the many motifs that comprise the DNA of SOFI TUKKER‘s long-awaited sophomore album, WET TENNIS, which is out now after appearing in our list of the top 22 electronic albums to come out in 2022. Considering the fact that their debut album, the Grammy-nominated Treehouse, was released in 2018, it’s safe to say that Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern of SOFI TUKKER have evolved both individually and as a pair over the past four years. And WET TENNIS is not only a testament to that growth, but also an intricate statement on liberation and self-empowerment. There are three levels to the album’s title: the “WET” part, the “TENNIS” part, and the full acronym. &...

Flume Drops Two Mind-Bending Singles From Forthcoming Third Album, “Palaces”: Listen

The rollout of Flume‘s Palaces continues to unravel with kaleidoscopic quality.  Two new singles from Flume’s first full-length project since 2019’s Hi This Is Flume mixtape have hit streaming services, including the album’s titular track featuring Damon Albarn.  A lingering piano solo coupled with crescendoing soundscapes unfurls to introduce a melancholic vocal from Albarn, who appears roughly midway through “Palaces.” The Gorillaz frontman’s words resonate with a psychedelic, choral-like effect as Flume blasts into a big instrumental finish with lively drums and bursting synth chords. Flume doesn’t skimp on bringing equally vibrant synth work to “ESCAPE,” a collaboration alongside ascendant bass music produc...

The Road to ODESZA’s Fourth Album Continues With Haunting Single, “Behind The Sun”

After the release of ODESZA‘s latest single from their fourth album, one thing has never been more clear: they won’t settle for the ordinary. The tandem have never shied away from roaming new sonic frontiers in their illustrious career, but The Last Goodbye is perhaps their biggest canvas for exploration. Case in point are the album cuts “The Last Goodbye” and “Love Letter,” which embraced house music in a way ODESZA never have before. But their new single, a subversive single called “Behind The Sun,” is markedly more haunting than its predecessors. “Behind The Sun” samples a song recorded by Simin Ghanem, an Iranian classicial singer born in 1944. Ghanem’s Persian chants bellow through ODESZA’s spellbinding sound...
