<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-22T12:35:37+00:00“>April 22, 2021 | 8:35am ET Yola has announced a new album titled Stand For Myself, due out later this summer via Easy Eye Sound. As a preview, the Grammy-nominated artist has shared a fiery new single from it called “Diamond Studded Shoes”. Like the English singer-songwriter’s heralded 2019 album Walk Through Fire, her sophomore record was also produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Finding herself stranded in limbo after the pandemic killed her stadium tour plans, Yola hunkered down and began writing the songs that would become Stand For Myself, which she calls “a collection of stories of allyship, Black feminine strength through vulnerability, ...
<span class="localtime" data-ltformat="F j, Y | g:ia" data-lttime="2021-04-22T02:52:02+00:00“>April 21, 2021 | 10:52pm ET Lil Yachty will return this week with his new mixtape Michigan Boy Boat. The whole thing will hit streaming services this Friday April 23rd, but the Atlanta MC has shared a trailer for the project on Instagram. Although Yachty is a born-and-raised Atlanta rapper, the 23-year-old has been associating with figures from the Michigan scene (specifically in Detroit and Flint) for years, and now he’s ready to unleash the fruits of fully embedding himself in that world. In the trailer he posted for Michigan Boat Boy, which he initially announced way back in October of last year, Yachty talks about how blown away he is by Mich...
Chicago producer oddCouple has teamed up with Jamila Woods for a new single called “Reflections”. It’s the title track from his upcoming solo album that’s due out later this spring. Although oddCouple has a pair of respected projects under his own name, the composer is best-known for his production work with other Chi-town figures like Chance The Rapper, Noname, Joey Purp, Saba, and many others. However, some of his most esteemed credits are for his work on Woods’ albums; he executive-produced her 2016 debut HEAVN and also contributed heavily to her 2019 follow-up Legacy! Legacy!. In a press release for “Reflections”, oddCouple dubbed the R&B champion “my most trusted collaborator”, so it’s fitting that he’d enlist her to help introduce this new chapter in his career. The DJ’...
Crowded House have returned with news of their first album in over a decade, Dreamers Are Waiting. The record is due out later this year, but the Australian rockers are giving fans a taste with a new song called “To The Island”. The track is actually the second single from the 12-song effort, which marks their first new full-length since 2010’s Intriguer. Last year, the gang unveiled a song called “Whatever You Want” that came paired with a hallucinatory video starring none other than Mac DeMarco. The Crowded House lineup has shifted a lot throughout their myriad breakups and reunions since forming in 1985, and now the band is a multi-generational affair. The personnel for Dreamers Are Waiting features founding members Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, producer/keyboardist Michael Floo...
Norwegian avant-pop artist Ora The Molecule has signed to Mute Records and announced her debut album Human Safari. To pair with the news, she’s shared its elastic lead single, “Creator”. Ora The Molecule is the project of the Oslo, Norway-born songwriter Nora Schjelderup, who started putting out music under this name back in 2018. In 2019, she released a great EP called Sugar that sonically landed somewhere between The Eurythmics, Austra, and Jessie Ware. Throughout the rest of 2019, she dribbled out singles that were in the same vein of sleek, icy, slightly strange dance-pop, and clearly she resonated with a wider audience. According to a press release, the 12-track Human Safari was informed by Schjelderup taking the opportunity to really examine the world around her. ...
Squid have announced their debut album Bright Green Field, which is set to arrive in May. As a first look, the Brighton post-punk band is sharing a sprawling lead single called “Narrator”. Bright Green Field follows Squid’s pair of 2020 songs, “Sludge” and “Broadcaster”, as well as their 2019 EP Town Centre. This LP was produced by Dan Carey (black midi, Bat For Lashes, Hot Chip), and judging by the recording process, it sounds like they went big: a 30-person choir, a horn and string ensemble, and actual field recordings of bees. Although its title and artwork evoke a pastoral setting, drummer/vocalist Oliver Judge says that this album exists in a shadowy cityscape. “The tracks illustrate the places, events and architecture that exist within it,” he explains in a statement. ...
Shovels & Rope (photo by Todd Cooper) and Sharon Van Etten (photo by Ryan Pfluger) Shovels & Rope have teamed up with Sharon Van Etten for a cover of The Beach Boys’ “In My Room”. The track is part of an upcoming covers collection called Busted Jukebox Volume 3 that’s loosely inspired by the act of parenting. The first two installments of Shovels & Rope’s collaborative series arrived in 2015 and 2017, respectively, and both of those projects were loaded with guests like Brandi Carlile and Shakey Graves. Volume 3 has the cheeky alternative titled Busted Juicebox because all of the guests musicians are parents themselves, and the songs they chose to cover — from lullabies and American songbook standards, to R.E.M. and Janis Joplin cuts — are emotionally relate...

Cartalk is the indie rock project of Los Angeles musician Chuck Moore (they/them), and today they’ve announced their debut album, Pass Like Pollen. You may not know who Cartalk is just yet, but chances are many of your favorite indie artists probably do. The forthcoming record was produced by Sarah Tudzin, a.k.a. Illuminati Hotties, and it features numerous contributions from musicians that have also worked with Lucy Dacus, Vagabon, Runnner, and more. Collin Pastore (boygenius, Julien Baker) mixed the record, and it was mastered by Jett Galindo (Neil Young, Nile Rodgers) at the LA institution The Bakery. Those are some pretty tall endorsements for a debut album, but Moore’s songwriting exceeds the hype. Four of the album’s nine songs, including today’s “Las Manos”, have tri...
