Dave Grohl’s former band Scream have announced a Kickstarter campaign for a new album, titled DC Special. It marks their sixth album to date, but first since 1993. The Washington, DC hardcore vets are returning to the city’s famed Inner Ear Studio to record the album. The studio was the epicenter of the DC hardcore sound, with bands such as Minor Threat, Bad Brains, and Fugazi recording albums there over the years. Sadly, the studio is set to close at the end of September. But Scream will rip out one last LP with founder Don Zientara behind the boards. The band is asking for help from fans to fund the project, and they’re offering some incentives depending on the size of your donation: a Les Paul from the recording, a fishing trip with drummer Kent Stax, an in-studio hang with the band, an...
Mark Lanegan and The Icarus Line‘s Joe Cardamone have announced the eponymous debut album for their recording project Dark Mark vs. Skeleton Joe. They’ve also shared the song “No Justice” ahead of the LP’s October 15th release date. The song presents a pulsing electronic sound paired with Lanegan’s imitably deep vocal delivery. Minimal dancefloor beats and synthesizers percolate beneath the grunge veteran’s mix of spoken word and singing. Dark Mark lives up to his moniker during the chorus: “Ain’t no justice here, ain’t no justice there / Nobody sees, nobody cares.” According to the album’s press announcement, the project was born out of Lanegan and Cardamone’s mutual respect for one another as artists. They also needed a creative outlet where they could go outside their typical genres and...

In advance of the LP’s release, the New York-based artist has unleashed the infectious and eclectic single “MMC.” “MMC” takes the listener on a wide-ranging ride of musical genres, with a guitar-heavy intro leading into post-punk verses and a sing-along anthemic chorus. At the 3:10 mark, the tune suddenly shifts into a vaudevillian piano number, with Des Rocs momentarily taking on the role of a throwback crooner. Speaking about the song in a press release, Des Rocs said, “‘MMC’ is about people who are obsessed with being anything but themselves. It’s a roller coaster of a record that was written all at once in this kinda chaotic catharsis...

Such was the case with ‘Atone.’” The new album features an impressive cast of backing musicians, including Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Gil Sharone (Team Sleep), Abe Laboriel J...
