Noah Baumbach has been quietly working on a new film adaptation of White Noise, the 1985 novel by Don DeLillo. Although its still coming together behind the scenes, he’s been busy finding the perfect actors to star in the movie, and the latest addition might just be the coolest: André 3000. According to the Cleveland Scene, the legendary Outkast rapper will join a cast that includes big names like Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig. None of their roles in the film have been revealed just yet, but the paper did state that filming is taking place in Cleveland, Ohio under the name Wheat Germ/White Noise. They also said André 3000 has been walking around the city with “his cool-ass flute and chill vibes” and “cheerfully posing for selfies with fans,” which is always nice to hear. For those who’ve no...
Cara mia! Tim Burton’s live-action Addams Family series has found its ghoulish patriarch. As Deadline notes, Luis Guzmán is set to portray Gomez Addams on the upcoming Netflix show. Titled Wednesday, the streamer’s eight-episode adaptation will star Jenna Ortega as the eponymous Wednesday Addams, and center around the family’s iconically deadpan daughter as she attends the frightful and mysterious Nevermore Academy. While there, the show promises to be part comedy, part mystery, as Wednesday “attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships.” The rest of the macabre family and Wedne...
Despite being a ’90s teen rom-com favorite, She’s All That barely held up at the time of its release in 1999. The whole “transform an outsider into a popular kid so that everyone can learn lessons about themselves” thing reinforced the grossness of high school hierarchy as much as anything. Now that social media has made teenagers that much more judgmental, it’s apparently time to reiterate those lessons with a remake. Netflix is releasing the gender-swapped He’s All That on August 27th, and the streamer has today delivered the first trailer. From the looks of it, She’s All That screenwriter R. Lee Fleming and Mean Girls director Mark Walters decided to take all the worst parts of the original and make it 2021. TikTok star (aka content thief, aka not an actress) Addison Rae plays Padg...
Netflix is fond of asking if you’re still watching, but during the pandemic the question has become, are they still filming? To keep things healthy and humming along, the streaming giant has announced that it will require COVID-19 vaccines for all cast and crew members in the United States who work in close proximity to a set. Pandemic-related pauses can be incredibly expensive. Just recently, positive COVID tests temporarily delayed blockbuster productions like Mission Impossible 7 and the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, and while we don’t have estimates for how much that cost, the production company behind Apple TV+’s The Morning Show recently sued their insurance company to recoup $44 million lost just waiting around. Besides that, mandato...
“Netflix, I choose you!” As Variety reports, The Pokémon Company has struck a deal with Netflix to develop a new live-action series along the lines of… gulp… Pokémon Detective Pikachu. The show is in the early stages of development. While few details are known, this adaptation of the beloved video game/card game/anime empire will be helmed by Joe Henderson, who is currently the co-showrunner of the Netflix series Lucifer. Both Netflix and Pokémon have somewhat dubious histories of live-action adaptations. Pokémon Detective Pikachu had enough manic energy to satisfy kids in the audience, but the plot pacing could be frustrating for adults, and it failed to measure up to the likes of Pixar and Marvel in appealing to all ages. As new television and film streaming services pop up left and right, long-running platforms like Netflix are seeking new ways to grow their offerings in an increasingly-saturated market. Verdu has previously held executive positions at both Facebook and Electronic Arts. No word yet on exactly what video games Netflix customers will receive, but Bloomberg reports that they are set to debut “within the next year.” They’ll appear alongside your current film and TV options as a genre, the way you can swipe through comedy films or documentaries o...
