“One Day at a Time”: NERVO on Persevering the Challenges of Breast Cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It’s a time when we set aside our own issues and work together to foster the conversation around one of the deadliest types of cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, approximately one in eight women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in their lifetime—a heartbreaking figure that NERVO is all too familiar with. Back in March 2014, the mother of the barnstorming sister DJ duo was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer. Considering the fact that their family did not have a history of the disease, the diagnosis was a metaphorical punch in the gut. Olivia and Miriam Nervo’s mom’s cancer was detected through a routine mammogram, a fortuitous happenstance that underscores the importance of early detection screeni...

New Documentary to Underscore Lack of Female Inclusivity in Dance Music

A new documentary underscoring the blatant lack of female inclusivity in the dance music industry is primed for its world premiere. Sponsored by Bud Light Canada, “Underplayed” will feature a litany of influential women in the electronic dance music scene, including REZZ, NERVO, Anna Lunoe, Alison Wonderland, and TOKiMONSTA, among others, who will wax poetic about their gross underrepresentation in a modern musical zeitgeist they helped to popularize. The film will also explore their insights into how women can champion change in a historically male-dominated industry. “The world of electronic music was created to promote diversity and inclusion,” Bud Light pointed out in a tweet. “Yet, in 2019, only 5 of the world’s top 100 DJs were women.” T...

Still stuck in quarantine for the foreseeable future, DJs and producers are using the free time to churn out new releases. Last month Armin van Buuren had not one, but three new releases. That includes his most recent melodic house track, “Hollow,” and two festival-ready big room tracks, “Boom Boom” and “Tarzan” with Blasterjaxx. After releasing his London Sessions album in May, Tiësto is still dropping new music too. This time he went with a more bouncy house sound in “Tomorrow.” Nora En Pure also has been busy making new songs while she’s stuck at home. According to a press release for her first release of the year, “All I Need,” fans can expect “a steady stream of new music over the rest of the year.”&nbs...

Sundemo’s angelic vocals make the unhappy lyrics feel uplifting, creating a melodic dance ballad that would be perfect to help anyone thro...

The goal of the series is to provide a platform for these individuals to share their own experiences and perspectives and ultimately inspire anyone experiencing pitfalls contrived by the impact of COVID-19. The thoughts and viewpoints expressed are those of the author, Miriam Nervo of NERVO. I’m going to start with my mindset. I think this pandemic has really changed a lot for me. It’s changed a lot in terms of the way that I greet strangers moving forward, and the way I take wearing masks, which is very seriously. I think from now on whenever I’m feeling a little under the weather, I’m goi...
