Two legendary dance music acts are set to collide to celebrate the return of live music in Sin City. Insomniac has announced a major Las Vegas concert later this month with deadmau5 headlining and the legendary three-piece electronic music outfit Nero playing a supporting DJ set. Renowned techno producer and mau5trap mainstay No Mana will also perform at the show, which is scheduled for Friday, May 21st at Downtown Las Vegas Events Center and will kick off a series of Insomniac concerts across two weekends. The outdoor event falls on what would have been the first day of EDC Las Vegas, which was postponed in controversial fashion in the month of April. Last month, legendary trio Nero kicked off a string of edit releases with a massive rework of Daft Punk’s “Emotion.” The electronic outfit didn’t slow down after that, releasing edits at random intervals throughout the month thereafter, including a take on Tame Impala’s “Disciples” and classic 80s track “Relax” by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. Now, the next Nero bootleg is here, and it’s glorious. Travelling back even further in time for an edit of the Phil Collins-era Genesis, Nero’s version of “Mama” refreshes a nearly 40- year old song with a clean 2021 sheen. In classic Nero fashion, a dark and synth-driven production provides a nearly cyberpunk atmosphere that fits the trio’s aesthetic perfectly.&nbs...
It’s no secret that the blockchain-powered streaming service Audius has taken the electronic music world by storm since its inception. As cryptocurrency becomes more and more accessible—and valuable—it seems the polarizing platform is here for the long haul. Positioning itself as a disruptor and a threat to SoundCloud’s dominance in the digital space, Audius is the perfect blend of innovation, controversy, and razzle-dazzle rolled into one platform. And with a user base that seems to be growing faster than a daisy in a summer, it’s no wonder why the service’s flagship $AUDIO token recently reached its all-time high. Countless major electronic artists have backed Audius and released music via the unique platform, like Excision, REZZ, and Dillon Francis, among many ot...
Though most know Joseph Ray for his incredible contributions as a founding member of NERO, he launched a solo project in 2017 that focuses on techno and house music. His releases have landed on Odd One Out as well as Anjunadeep, among others. His latest release, “300 Below,” arrives by way of Atlantic’s Big Beat Records imprint. “300 Below” stays the course Joseph Ray set in 2017, expanding further into the vision of his solo endeavor. Clocking in at just over eight minutes, the fabled producer has cooked up a blistering techno journey. Opening with ambient, ethereal sounds, the tune quickly develops a thumping bassline and a vast array of various sonic elements. “300 Below” is also accompanied by a visualizer created by Strang...
There’s an escalating output of new music from the elusive Nero trio. The group has just dropped their third remix within a week. Prior to their latest run of releases, the group had remained dark for two years. It’s no secret that 80s era sonics and aesthetics have played a substantial role in shaping the Nero we know today. For their latest remix, the trio put a new spin on one of the decade’s most recognizable hits, Frankie Goes to Hollywood‘s 1984 hit “Relax.” While it’s clear from the outset this is a Nero remix based on the sweeping textures, punchy kicks, and robotic basses, Nero is careful to build ample suspense before truly throwing listeners for a loop. As Holly Johnson calls out in earnest, “Hit me with your laser b...
Just one day after returning from a two-year-plus hiatus with a Daft Punk remix, legendary electronic music trio Nero have struck again. Nero’s March 23rd edit of Daft Punk’s “Emotion” marked the group’s first musical release in over two years, following December 2018’s “Lullaby.” They’ve now opted to give Tame Impala‘s “Disciples” a spin, reworking the track into a riveting indietronica jam. Nero dialed up the energy, implementing a four-on-the-floor rhythm and soaring brass elements for a dazzling electronic rendition. They also noted that they used to play an older version of the remix in their shows back in 2016. After two consecutive releases in as many days, fans are now safe to expect more ne...
Fabled electronic music trio Nero has returned with their first new track in over two years, a stunning remix of Daft Punk‘s “Emotion.” Nero announced the new remix in a heartfelt social media tribute to Daft Punk, whose shocking split sent ripples of bewilderment and admiration through the music community in February 2021. “Thank you for all the memories, inspiration and emotion,” the trio wrote. Nero’s edit of “Emotion” is nothing short of breathtaking. They managed to construct an aching dance number using the bones of the original, interpolating radiant chords and fluttering arpeggios and with Daft Punk’s vocoders in dazzling fashion. Nero beautifully oscillates between half-time and double-time with elegant finesse, cater...
