RL Grime and Nero are tying a bow on 2022 in a big way after teaming up for a monster collaboration, “Renegade.” The two influential electronic music acts today dropped the new single, which arrived by way of Grime’s Sable Valley imprint. It’s a soaring bass track featuring the signature, eerily breathtaking vocals of Nero’s Alana Watson, which float atop a haunting arrangement replete with stunning sound design. “Renegade,” which was originally teased in Grime’s remarkable “Halloween XI” mix, saw its live debut during his DJ set at Porter Robinon’s Second Sky festival back in October. It also pours gasoline on the momentous return of Nero, who recently joined forces onstage together as a complete band for the...
Just like Mariah Carey on November 1st, each Halloween season RL Grime unthaws to drop some bombs. Days after the release of the stunning 11th installment of his long-running Halloween mix series, Grime took the stage at Porter Robinson’s curated Bay Area festival, Second Sky. During his performance, he treated the crowd to a bevy of his trap classics, high-caliber remixes and selections from his own Sable Valley imprint. But it was one particular track that really stunned the electronic music community, a new collaborative ID with one of the scene’s most iconic acts: Nero. You can hear a snippet in the below clip, wherein breathtaking vocals from Nero’s Alana Watson’s build into an uplifting, high-energy drop blending the trio’s ...

For each leg of the tour, Nero have performed DJ sets, but they’re now offering fans a special surprise to close out their run. At both of the tour’s Red Rocks dates, Nero will reunite as a trio with vocalist Alana Watson for their first live performance together since 2017. Back in the summer of 2021, on the 10-year anniversary of their groundbreaking debut album, Welcome Reality, the Grammy-winning trio announced their third album in the works. We hav...
An in-depth review of Pennsylvania’s newly announced Boss Wave Massive may very well beg the question, “Who—or what—is really running the show?” Organizers of the upcoming two-day event, a product of Obskure and the founder of Boss Wave, NXTLVL, are committed to giving the stage a “mind” of its own with an ambitious, AI-powered production. It may seem like a big ask for an artist to surrender direction over the stage, but a formidable selection of electronic music producers have joined the innovative effort, including Nero, Pendulum, Space Laces and many more. Boss Wave Massive Boss Wave’s AI entities, Master Kontrol and SHODAN, are said to play critical roles in shaping what audiences are witnessing onstage while directly playing off of t...
Rolling Stone has published its list of greatest dance songs of all-time. Dance music has evolved immensely over the years and is now paramount to today’s contemporary music ecosystem. In order to land on their high-profile list, the songs “had to be part of ‘dance music culture,'” according to Rolling Stone. “It’s a more specific world, but an enormous one too, going back nearly fifty years and eternally evolving right up to today and into the future,” the outlet writes. Covering 200 tracks, the list features electronic dance music classics like Avicii‘s “Levels” (#52), Nero‘s “Promises” (#42), DJ Snake‘s “Turn Down For What” (#22) and Disclosure‘s “Latch” (#10)...
deadmau5‘s famed We Are Friends compilation series has been transformed into a new live experience. Breakbeat Kaos, one of the industry’s most beloved record labels for drum & bass music, has relaunched at the direction of DJ Fresh. In the early 2010s, Fresh achieved world recognition for hit tracks like “Gold Dust” and then—alongside Rita Ora—became the world’s first artist to top the U.K. charts with a drum & bass single, according to UKF. He did the same with 2011’s timeless dubstep song “Louder.” As his career boomed, releases on Breakbeat Kaos began to wind down. By that point, however, the imprint had already released a slew of early career singles from future household names like NERO and Chase & Status. They also released Hold Your Colour, the debut album from legendary drum & bass group Pendulum. Recommended Articles None...
When NERO remixed NERO in 2011, they won a Grammy… just saying. While the iconic trio have been rather quiet since dropping the bombshell that they’re working on their third album a few months ago, founding member Joseph Ray has been releasing music solo. This includes his critically acclaimed collaborative album Leave the Bones with Haiti’s Lakou Mizik. For those unfamiliar with the band, Lakou Mizik was founded after the catastrophic 2010 earthquake in Haiti with a goal to “show the world that their country was much more than the sum of headlines that were being shot around the globe.” Now, Ray’s fellow members have joined in and released their own remix of one of the album’s singles, the riveting “No Rival!.” While the original ...
Many fans of electronic music consider Nero‘s 2011 debut album, Welcome Reality, to be one of the best in the history of the genre. Now, on the 10th anniversary of their masterpiece, the group have announced that a third album is on the way. The Grammy-winning trio took to social media to exult in the anniversary, sharing a screenshot of Welcome Reality‘s album cover as well as a computer folder titled “Nero 3rd album demos.” The tweet’s comment section was immediately set ablaze with excitement and speculation. Although the anticipation is already through the roof, Nero unfortunately stopped short of divulging any more information, including a title or release date. However, if you look closely, you can see that the folder contains 12 items, leading some...
For the past few months the legendary electronic trio Nero have been delighting fans with a number of remixes on Audius. They’ve now hit the airwaves with Insomniac‘s Pasquale Rotella for a recent episode of Night Owl Radio. They laid down a 30-minute guest mix featuring many of these new releases alongside tracks from their electronic music contemporaries. Included in the mix are many of the recent remixes, like their takes on Daft Punk, Genesis, Tame Impala, and Frankie Goes To Hollywood. For good measure, Nero also sprinkled in tracks from RL Grime and ISOxo, Papa Khan, Boys Noize, Justice’s Gaspard Augé, and more. The final product is a nimble journey through multiple genres in the electronic world mixed in such a way that tells a nostalg...
