In a new opinion piece on his website, Neil Young says he thinks the U.S. will be a “better country” after protesters have left their mark and when President Trump is done “fanning the flames.” The singer-songwriter, throughout the lengthy essay published on his website, writes of his support for the recent Black Lives Matter protests across the country and his expectations for the 2020 presidential race — including his hopes for Democratic candidate Joe Biden’s vice presidential candidate selection. “As an old white guy, I don’t feel threatened by my black brothers,” Young writes. “I welcome him and his sisters. We have to deal with our white insecurities. I don’t feel any of those insecurities myself, (I have my own in other places). I will stand with my black brother. I want a better wo...
Neil Young has dropped his latest Fireside Sessions livestream, but with a twist. Opening up with animals, Young took things outdoors but what he’s calling the Barnyard Sessions. As usual, the result did not disappoint. Directed again by Daryl Hannah, the session is just under 29 minutes and sees Young go deep into his catalog. Opening up with “Tumbleweed” from 2014’s Storytone on ukulele outside of the barn, Young barnstormed through songs including “Homegrown,” “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” (where he’s surrounded by chickens) and “War of Man” as twilight beckons. In addition to the chickens, Young was surrounded by horses, llamas and an alpaca. As usual, Hannah and Young recorded Fireside Sessions from their home in Colorado. The previous session was released on M...
Fans have been waiting for Neil Young’s “lost” album, Homegrown, to see the light of day. And it looks like their wishes have come true. Young has announced that Homegrown, which he recorded from 1974 to 1975, will be dropping on June 19 via Reprise. He also released a track from the record called “Try.” “I apologize. This album Homegrown should have been there for you a couple of years after Harvest,” Neil Young said in a statement via Pitchfork. “It’s the sad side of a love affair. The damage done. The heartache. I just couldn’t listen to it. I wanted to move on. So I kept it to myself, hidden away in the vault, on the shelf, in the back of my mind… but I should have shared it. It’s actually beautiful. That’s why I made it in the first place. Sometimes life hurts. You know what I mean. T...
After nearly a month, Neil Young has shared his latest Fireside Sessions livestream. Like its previous three editions, the fourth one was shot and directed by Young’s wife Daryl Hannah and it took place at the couple’s home in Colorado. Starting at sunset and standing in front of a campfire, Young kicked off the set with a version of “One of These Days” from Harvest Moon before going indoors (in front of a fireplace), grabbing his harmonica and busting out “Good to See You” from 2000’s Silver & Gold. After the song, Young told Hannah that he “could never get it right” and “it seemed like a simple little song.” Young also performed the Zuma rarity “Through My Sails,” which according to Setlist.fm, is the first time he’s played the song. It was also the first version of fellow ...
