PDP: President Buhari government frustrating war against corruption

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Wednesday, accused the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government of deliberate hoarding of relevant information from Nigerians on the extent of corruption in his administration. This is even as the party said Nigerians have noted the blackmails, intimidation, and threats coming from government quarters, “in their feverish bid to frustrate whistleblowers and truncate on-going uncovering of widespread corruption in ministries, departments and agencies, under the All Progressives Congress, APC, administration.” Addressing a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Abuja, PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, said one of such antics by this administration was Tuesday, July 28, 2020 press conference by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Moh...

30 Rock Reunion Special: How to Watch, Premiere Time, and Everything You Need to Know

On Thursday, July 16th, the cast of 30 Rock are reuniting for a one-time-only scripted special. It’s debuting on NBC, which you can watch with a free 7-day trial of Hulu + Live TV. It’s been seven years since the hit sitcom concluded its seven-season, 138-episode run in January of 2013. Now, like its sister NBC program Parks and Recreation, the beloved comedy is heading back to the air for a purpose-driven reunion special. While the Parks and Recs crew re-teamed to support Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, the 30 Rock-ers have gotten back together for a far more corporate purpose — which, given the very nature of the show itself, makes it a perfectly meta exercise in corporate synergy. So, why exactly have the doors to Studio 6H been reopened, and how can you watch it all unfo...

Hulu Pulls Episode of The Golden Girls Over Blackface Concerns

The Golden Girls is the latest piece of NBC-related pop culture to go under the knife. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu has removed a 1988 episode that finds Betty White and Rue McClanahan being mistaken for wearing blackface. The episode in question is “Mixed Feelings” from Season 3 and finds the son of Dorothy (Beatrice Arthur) planning to wed an older Black woman named Lorraine (Rosalind Cash). Things get iffy when Lorraine’s family stumbles upon Rose (White) and Blanche (McClanahan) trying on a new mud facial treatment. Caught off guard, Rose jokes: “This is mud on our faces, we’re not really Black.” Don’t have Hulu? You can sign up now for a free 30-day trial! Okay, so it’s no Gone with the Wind, but it’s hardly a surprising move — especially for NBC. In fact, this marks...

The Office Removes Scene, Community Pulls Episode over Blackface

Two more beloved NBC comedies — The Office and Community — are either removing or altering episodes due to blackface. For The Office, the scene in question appears in the Season 9 episode, “Dwight Christmas”, which originally aired on December 6th, 2012. The moment occurs as Rainn Wilson’s Dwight Schrute is portraying the German Christmas folklore character Belsnickel. It’s revealed that Belsnickel is often accompanied by Zwarte Piet, or Black Peter, a character described as “a slave boy often portrayed in colorful pantaloons and blackface.” When his colleagues object to the concept, Dwight shoots a text to Nate (Mark Proksch). The scene cuts to Nate outside, dressed as Black Pete was described, who turns away before entering the party. Rather than pull the episode altogether, the sce...

30 Rock Blackface Episodes Pulled at Tina Fey’s Request

30 Rock is about to get slimmer. As Variety reports, creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock alongside NBCUniversal have requested that multiple episodes featuring characters in blackface be removed from streaming networks and syndication. “As we strive to do the work and do better in regards to race in America, we believe that these episodes featuring actors in race-changing makeup are best taken out of circulation,” Fey explained in a statement obtained by Variety. “I understand now that ‘intent’ is not a free pass for white people to use these images. I apologize for pain they have caused. Going forward, no comedy-loving kid needs to stumble on these tropes and be stung by their ugliness. I thank NBCUniversal for honoring this request.” As Vulture notes, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) appe...

Blac Chyna Accuses NBC Of Racism In Relation To ‘Rob & Chyna’ Reality Show

Source: Neilson Barnard / Getty Back in 2017, Blac Chyna launched a lawsuit against the sprawling Kardashian clan after alleging that they interfered with her former show, Rob & Chyna, leading to its cancellation. In a new statement, Chyna is accusing NBC of racism and that if she were white, the claims made by Kris Jenner that she beat Rob Kardashian would have been investigated and found false. Page Six reports that Blac Chyna’s legal team issued a statement accusing NBCUniversal of canceling her reality series with her ex-boyfriend and father of her daughter after Ms. Jenner informed the network of violent episodes behind the scenes. Chyna is standing firm on pushing back against the allegations made by Jenner and Kardashian and is adding a new wrinkle to the matter. From Page Six: ...

‘The Voice’ Crowns Season 18 Winner

(Warning, spoilers follow) And the winner is… After an uncharacteristic season which saw NBC’s The Voice send all its contestants home to perform in isolation, one person has been crowned the champion: Team Blake’s Todd Tilghman. The 41-year-old emerged winner on Tuesday night (May 19) after a fiercely fought final which, for the first time, featured five hopefuls, Toneisha Harris and Tilghman (Team Blake), Micah Iverson (Team Kelly), CammWess (Team Legend) and Thunderstorm Artis (Team Nick), with each performing for America’s vote. In another first, The Voice finale had a crossover with another NBC brand, Songland, with competitors getting to collaborate with the latter series’ songwriters. Tilghman, the lead pastor of Cornerstone Church in Meridian, Mississippi, wins $100,000 and a recor...

Tier Drop Ranks The Office Characters on Twitch

Last week, the cast of The Office reunited to bring us all some good news — but mainly superfans John and Susan, who got to watch John Krasinski, Steve Carell, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms, and more do the infamous wedding dance to celebrate their surprise nuptials. This past Saturday also happened to be the anniversary of the classic sitcom’s series finale. In light of all of this, we’re heading to Scranton, the Electric City, to rank the characters of The Office on our Twitch show Tier Drop. It’s rare for a primary cast to feature so many characters that could easily be fan-favorites. Sure, there’s the Michael Scotts, Jim Halperns, Jim Halperts, Pam Beeslys, and Dwight Schrutes, who center much of the show’s story. But swipe that ruler across the desk and you’re bound to bump into a ...
