This was a particularly memorable win in an unusual year. NBA titles are typically won in June. This is no typical year. After a long break due to the pandemic, the competition restarted in a special “bubble” built in Florida to keep teams and their staff healthy. James and Co. gave the Lakers their first championship since the late superstar Kobe Bryant won his fifth and final title a decade ago. After the game, The King and fellow star Anthony Davis dedicated the trophy to Bryant, who died January in a helicopter crash. The Lakers’ 17th title tie the Boston Celtics franchise for the all-time record. Lakers fans partied well into the night as fans from the music community and across the entertainment worlds shared their thoughts on this historic season. Check out reaction from Snoop Dogg,...
Source: Michael Reaves / Getty One thing about Doc Rivers he keeps a coaching job in the NBA. Just three days after he and the Los Angeles Clippers agreed to part ways, Rivers landed a new gig as the coach of Philadelphia 76ers. ESPN NBA Insider, Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Rivers and the Sixers reached an agreement on a five-year deal to bring his coaching expertise and fill the coaches sit that previous coach Brett Brown. With him becoming the head coach of the Sixers, he now returns to the Atlantic Division, where he once led the Boston Celtics to an NBA championship. ESPN reports that 76ers general manager Elton Brand first reached out to Rivers and his agent Lonnie Cooper on Monday, to “gauge his interest” in the job. Rivers didn’t waste any time hopping on a plane to Philadelphi...
Source: Kevin C. Cox / Getty LeBron James had time for armchair experts critiquing his performance on the court. Fresh off a stunning Los Angeles Lakers victory over the Denver Nuggets in game two of the Western Conference Finals that saw Anthony Davis nail a buzzer-beating three, James took some time to address his haters. Before the game came down to the defining moment, the Lakers were cruising, for the most part, led by a torrid start by James before he cooled off in the second half, and Davis took over. Critics like professional LeBron James hater, Skip Bayless, didn’t waste time twisting himself into a pretzel to find a way to fault King James for the Lakers almost losing the game. They believe that Bron was trying to get himself out of the pivotal moment and relieving himself of the...
Source: Elsa / Getty While Kobe Bryant’s legacy is sure to live on forever one of his former teammates is trying to make sure his daughter’s name is never forgotten. Pau Gasol is paying tribute to her in a big way. As spotted on TMZ the former NBA player recently brought a new child to this world with his wife. In what has to be one of the classiest moves by any professional athlete, the power forward took the opportunity to honor Kobe and his late daughter with the name selected. On Sunday (Sept. 13), Elisabet Gianna Gasol came into this world bearing the middle name of Gianna Bryant. He detailed his enthusiasm in both Spanish and English. “Our little one has finally arrived!! The delivery went really well and we couldn’t be happier!! Elisabet Gianna Gasol 😍, a very mea...
Source: Ross Kinnaird / Getty DraftKings just leveled up by bringing the GOAT, Michael Jeffrey Jordan, into the fold. Wednesday (Sept.2), the sports betting company announced the retired NBA Hall-of-Famer, Michael Jordan is coming on board as an investor and board member. While surprising, the addition of Jordan makes sense because Chicago Bull legend was known as a notorious gambler during his playing days, and that was once again highlighted in the excellent Netflix/ESPN sports documentary, The Last Dance. The size of Jordan’s investment in the company is unknown. In the statement from the company, it was revealed that as a sitting board member, MJ will be helping with company strategy, product development, equity and belonging, marketing, and diversity. Speaking on Jordan’s addition, Dr...
Source: Kevin C. Cox / Getty After a few days of boycotting the playoffs to demand justice for the unjustified shooting of Jacob Blake, it looks like the players of the NBA are ready to get back on the court and resume play. According to Raw Story, the players have decided to finish out the remainder of the playoffs and crown an NBA champion, but no dates have been set yet as the NBA has still postponed the games as originally scheduled. Yesterday the players held a meeting before noon and though LeBron James’s Lakers and Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers were initially adamant about completely canceling the season (can you blame them?), they eventually came around to finishing out the remainder of the playoffs. Though the playoffs were expected to resume as early as today (August 28), no games hav...
Source: Cindy Ord / Getty NFL legend Brian Urlacher doesn’t care about Black people. That’s the only way to explain a headass message the former Chicago Bears linebacker posted on Instagram where he expressed disdain for NBA players having the nerve to go on strike in order to protest racial injustice. It was nice of Brian Urlacher to let every black teammate he ever played with know their lives aren’t worth shit. Also, FYI, the knife was found after he’d been shot. The cops who shot him didn’t know about, or see, it. Also, cops are supposed to arrest, not kill, people. pic.twitter.com/W3SoQuGkzq — Bill McCormick (@BillMcSciFi) August 27, 2020 On Instagram, Urlacher invoked spectacular yet tragic on-field performance from Brett Favre, as evidence that Black basketball pla...
