HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Sean M. Haffey / Getty Luka Dončić is just 22 years old but many have hailed him as the league’s best young player due to his varied skill set. In his return to the Dallas Mavericks lineup, Luka flirted with a triple-double and was slapped with a technical foul after having some choice words for Los Angeles Clippers player Terrence Mann. Luka emerged as one of the NBA’s top superstars and is the cornerstone of the Mavs, who are now coached by former star player Jason Kidd. After recovering from ankle and knee injuries, Luka poured in 26 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists to go along with a lot of trash-talking and a big boost from Kristaps Porziņģis, who scored 30 points and hauled in 7 boards. The Mavs took on the Clippers at the Staples Center wher...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Nic Antaya / Getty JJ Redick may not have been an NBA All-Star, but he was one of the scrappiest and dependable guards in the league in his 15-year career. Now moving into the world of broadcasting, the former Duke University standout took on Stephen A. Smith after a debate over whether or not NBA players fear LeBron James the way they feared Michael Jordan. Redick was a guest analyst on ESPN’s First Take program on Tuesday (Nov. 23) with Smith and host Molly Qerim when the pair got into the entire situation that unfolded between the Los Angeles Lakers and Detroit Pistons when James elbowed Isiash Stewart in the eye and nearly sparked a brawl. Smith insisted that today’s players don’t fear King James in the same fashion past stars didn’t dare take o...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Ron Schwane / Getty If you’re a Black person, you already know that that fall and winter can be hell on our skin due to the lack of humidity and moisture in the air. Kevin Durant showed full well how dry conditions can translate to dry skin much to his dismay, but the future Hall of Famer fired off a 12-word profane tweet to silence his critics. On Monday (Nov. 22), Slam Kicks posted a photo series from photographer Daren Scarberry, who wanted to show off KD’s kicks. A portion of Durant’s leg was shown and the condition of his skin was immediately zeroed in on. Black Twitter did what they had to do with the jokes as expected and while the chatter died down, folks are still digging their heels in. KD, famous for his responses on social media, crafted a han...
Over the weekend, Armin van Buuren joined the Chicago Bulls on the court during their game against the Knicks, but the 6’2” producer didn’t quite make his NBA debut in the traditional sense. He did, however, light up the Bulls’ home of the United Center with a halftime DJ set that brought over 20,000 fans to their feet. van Buuren opened with a surefire favorite, the Bulls’ introduction theme, which was famously remixed by Pretty Lights a decade ago. From there, van Buuren introduced a pumping kick drum and arpeggiated bassline before transitioning the dance cadence into some of his own music, such as “Blah Blah Blah” and “No Fun.” The Bulls rolled out the red mats for the trance music legend as the team’s dedicated tumbling team ...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Kyle Kuzma / @kuz The Washington Wizards are one of the surprise teams in the NBA after trading away All-Star Russell Westbrook to the Los Angeles Lakers and bringing on a bevy of necessary players. Kyle Kuzma, who is one of the team’s best contributors, is currently getting fried online after rocking an extremely loud and pink Patrick The Starfish outfit ahead of a Monday night game. Kuz was draped in a Raf Simons sweater that was probably meant to be worn by a member of the Annunaki instead of a normal-sized human. Sure, the sweater probably costs more than anything in most folks’ closets but that’s not going to stop anyone from getting their jokes off. What was wild about Kuz’s fit is that he’s already a rather tall gentleman, and the sleeves of ...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Sean M. Haffey / Getty In one of the most unexpectedly hilarious moments to bubble on social media, we’re sad to report that it came at the expense of NBA player, Eric Bledsoe. After Twiter fans resurfaced a track from Compton rapper YS titled “Mobsters,” and a line from Detroit rapper Sada Baby took a shot at the Los Angeles guard that has folks reacting. On 2020’s YS and RONRONTHEPRODUCER’s extremely dope “Mobsters” track, Sada Baby comes in on the second verse with all the disrespect in the world for those who like to stay in the gym. From “Mobsters”: “Change the motherf*ckin’ topic ’cause I said so/He got muscles for no reason, Eric Bledsoe/He in the gym workin’ out to get a headstone/…” As many on Twitter have noted, the only way anyone would k...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Nic Antaya / Getty LeBron James already attracts a ton of negative attention for reasons related to his dominance in the league, and that will surely increase after the events that unfolded over the weekend. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar nearly came to blows with Detroit Pistons player Isaiah Stewart, and many across #NBATwitter thought this was going to be Malice In The Palace part two. The Lake Show was in Motor City on Sunday (November 21) to take on the Pistons at Little Ceasars Arena when the skirmish happened. As seen on ESPN, Stewart was hit with a loose ball foul call and caught what has been explained as an accidental elbow from James, causing blood to stream down the right side of Stewart’s face. Video of the incident shows that James a...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: AAron Ontiveroz/MediaNews Group/The Denver Post via Getty Images / Getty The on-court kerfuffle between Nikola Jokic and Markieff Morris took an interesting turn of events on Twitter. #NBATwitter was on one after Denver Nuggets all-star big man and reigning league MVP Nikola Jokic shoved the soul out of Miami Heat forward Markieff Morris. Jokic uncharacteristically and violently pushed Morris from behind after Morris intentionally fouled Jokic late in a Monday night matchup between the two teams. The chippiness that saw Miami Heat superstar Jimmy Butler yelling at Jokic, “bring your a** to the back,” spilled onto social media after the game. Markieff’s twin brother, Marcus, hopped on Twitter, writing in a tweet, “Waited till bro turned his back smh. NOTE,...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: AAron Ontiveroz/MediaNews Group/The Denver Post via Getty Images / Getty Nikola Jokić, the reigning MVP of the NBA, might be facing a suspension after an exchange of hard fouls between him and Markieff Morris cleared the benches for their respective squads. After Morris delivered a hard foul to Jokić’s ribs, the Denver Nuggets big man shoved the Miami Heat forward hard to the ground, prompting the refs to eject Joker with Morris slapped with a flagrant foul charge. The Nuggets hosted the Heat on Monday (November 8) and were up to the tune of 111-94 with just 2 minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the contest. As Jokić was taking the ball down the court, Morris leaned in to stop the progress of the ball but delivered a left elbow shot to Jokić’s right...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Christian Petersen / Getty The Phoenix Suns are facing an internal crisis as allegations of racism and misogyny swirl about the team’s majority owner. Robert Sarver is now the target of an NBA investigation after a report from ESPN blew the lid off of happenings within the Suns organization. ESPN issued a report on Thursday (November 5) from Baxter Holmes that zeroed in on the allegations made against Sarver, who has been the majority owner of the Suns for the past 17 years. The outlet highlighted comments made by former NBA player and former Suns head coach Earl Watson regarding Sarver’s use of the “n-word” and how he felt a right to use it because Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors did so. Related Stories Watson retold the story and said that h...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Kevork Djansezian / Getty The Los Angeles Lakers opened up the 2021-22 NBA season as favorites to potentially win it all in the west after trading for Russell Westbrook and adding some other key pieces from teams past. However, the new-look Lake Show might have to talk some things out behind closed doors after big men Anthony Davis and Dwight Howard got into it on the bench. The Lakers are just two seasons out of winning the NBA championship and any team with LeBron James is a shoo-in to be a contender for the title. However, the young NBA season has proven already that what looks good on paper might not be good in reality. It should also be noted that the Lakers’ bench is a bit depleted as Talen Horton-Tucker, Kendrick Nunn, Wayne Ellington, and Tr...
HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Michael Reaves / Getty The new NBA season launched this week and much of the celebration of its return was centered around the league’s 75th anniversary, along with a list of the 75 greatest players of all time. While there are some expected names on the list, there have been several snubs and #NBATwitter definitely had something to say. The league has done similar lists before, most famously its 50 all-time greats list that was released on the league’s 50th anniversary. All of the names from the previous list were grandfathered to the current one, with the additional 25 being a mix of names that should’ve been on the first iteration and plenty of snubs abound this time. The complete list can be viewed below: KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR RAY ALLEN GIANNIS AN...
