HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Cassy Athena / Getty Cordae found his name trending on Twitter starting on Wednesday (Jan. 11) after his girlfriend, Naomi Osaka announced she was expecting her first child. Fans of the rapper and tennis superstar are naturally celebrating the news and getting off jokes at Cordae’s expense but it isn’t mean-spirited in the least for the most part. Cordae, 25, and Osaka, also 25, have been quite the pair over the past few years with the talented rapper often seen courtside supporting his lady. Since 2019, the couple has been going strong, and the addition of a little one all but signals that this is a union that was meant to last. We should note that while Osaka never mentions the DMV rapper, it can be assumed that he is indeed the father. In Osaka’s...

Celebs who got burned endorsing crypto and those that got away with it

Celebrities had a shaky year promoting crypto firms and projects throughout 2022.  Many found themselves named in lawsuits over their alleged promotion of since-failed projects, while others have been relentlessly mocked on social media for their involvement in the first place. From movie stars to television actors, sports stars to musicians, many celebrities may be regretting their endorsement deals last year, though that’s not to say that there haven’t been exceptions. Who got burned? In February last year, American comedian Larry David, who co-created the television series Seinfeld, appeared in a Super Bowl commercial for now-defunct crypto exchange FTX that encouraged users not to “miss out on the next big thing.” [embedded content] David has since been named in a class-action law...

Naomi Osaka, once one of the highest-ranked tennis players in the world, has become the latest figure in sports and entertainment to endorse crypto exchange FTX. In a Monday announcement, FTX said Osaka will be taking an equity stake in the exchange as well as receiving an undisclosed amount of cryptocurrency as compensation for her endorsement. According to the crypto exchange, the tennis star will be part of a “long-term partnership” aimed at bringing women into the space. “We have seen the statistics about how few women are part of crypto by comparison, which kind of mirrors the inequality we see in other financial markets,” said Osaka. “Cryptocurrencies started with the goal of being accessible to everyone and breaking down barriers to entry.” If @StephenCurry30 @TomB...

I guess my question is, how do you balance the two?” Cincinnati Enquirer reporter Paul Daughtery asked. “When you say I’m no...

Naomi Osaka dislikes long and busy stretches away from the comforts of home and so will plan the European portion of her schedule accordingly in the hope of improving her title hopes at the French Open and Wimbledon. Osaka, competing this week at the Miami Open near where she grew up, said that while she chases success relentlessly she is still trying to shape her playing schedule to give herself the best chance of success. “I’m not really sure what a normal schedule is but I’ve never thought of myself to be the type of player that would play week in and week out,” said Osaka. “I personally get homesick quite often and it makes me kind of sad sometimes.” Japan’s four-time Grand Slam champion collected her second U.S. Open title last September and followed that up with a second triumph at t...
