R.I.P. Pete Way, Founding UFO Bassist Dies at 69

Pete Way, who founded the pioneering UK hard-rock band UFO, has passed away at the age of 69. The legendary musician suffered major injuries in an unspecified accident a couple of months ago, and died Friday (August 14th). The news of Pete Way’s death was posted via a press release on his official Facebook page: “Iconic bass player Pete Way founder of UFO, Waysted and, latterly, The Pete Way Band has died. He sustained life threatening injuries in an accident two months ago but fought hard until finally succumbing to those injuries at 11.35am BST today. His wife, Jenny, was at his side.” Formed in 1968, UFO helped bridge the gap between hard rock and heavy metal, influencing acts like Iron Maiden, Metallica, and countless others. Way played on all of the band’s albums — from their 1970 deb...

Shania Twain Announces The Woman in Me: Diamond Edition

Shania Twain has announced a special 25th anniversary reissue of her star-making sophomore album The Woman in Me. The Diamond Edition will be available as an LP, or in two-CD or three-CD packages on October 2nd. Twain made her debut with an eponymous 1993 record. She didn’t write or co-write any of the tracks, and not coincidentally, it was something of a flop. But it did attract the interest of Robert John “Mutt” Lange, who at the time was best known for shepherding Def Leppard to their greatest commercial success on Hysteria. Together, Twain and Lange would embark on one of the great partnerships in country songwriting history, as well more than 16 years of marriage. The Woman in Me not only spawned Twain’s first number-one country hit, it produced three more songs th...

Inspirational One-Armed Drummer Masterfully Covers Slipknot’s “Duality”: Watch

Drummer Jack Thomas lost his right arm in a work accident when he was 17, but he didn’t let that halt his musical ambitions. Five years later, his masterful cover of Slipknot’s “Duality” is proof of that. Of all the drum covers, the cacophonous “Duality” might be one of the most complex and truly difficult for any percussionist. However, Thomas puts on a clinic, proving his virtuosity during the YouTube playthrough. “We all go through hardships,” Thomas said in the video. “We all go through the worst thing that has ever happened to us. For me, it was losing a limb. But regardless, everybody has their struggles. Whether it be financial or even relationships, wherever it might be. We all have those frustrations and struggles.” Thomas, also a skilled bassist, was working toward becoming a pro...

The Smashing Pumpkins Share Five Mysterious Countdowns

The Smashing Pumpkins are up to something. On Friday afternoon, the Chicago rockers surreptitiously began five separate countdowns on both their official site and the band’s socials. “Follow the countdown…” is all that was said. Not surprisingly, diehard fans over on the band’s sub-Reddit have already done the math on each of the five countdowns. They each lead to midnight EST on the following dates: Friday, August 28th; Friday, September 18th; Friday, October 9th; Thursday, October 30th; and Friday, Nov 20th. So, what does it all mean? Well, anything goes in the world of Billy Corgan, but odds are it has something to do with the double album he teased way, way back in February. You know, back when the world was somewhat normal. At the time, Corgan told the Tennessean that band was pl...

How Evanescence’s Amy Lee Became A Voice For The Unheard

By Erica Russell When Evanescence first broke out in 2003, no one really knew what to make of them. Despite rising on the Billboard Hot 100 and Top 40 charts and scoring five Grammy nominations (including two wins), Evanescence were imperfect outsiders who crashed into the mainstream when popular music just so happened to be at its most polished. The sound of their debut album, Fallen — a distinctive synthesis of sweeping orchestral drama; dark, gothic nu-metal; and big, pop-friendly hooks — was subversive and unexpected. And lead singer Amy Lee, with her commanding, celestial voice and faerie-goth aesthetic (complete with corsets and striped arm warmers) was like no other pop star at the time. With their dynamic breakout “Bring Me to Life,” rage-fueled rock banger “Going Under,” and sombe...

Wonho’s Tearful Return, Orville Peck And Shania Twain’s Legendary Collab, And More Songs We Love

“Vibe” is a catch-all we tend to use when describing sounds, sights, and aesthetics that just feel good, but calling Nilo Blues’s new video for “Nicotiana” anything else would not be fair. The Vietnamese-Chinese hip-hop artist hails from Canada, and his smooth, genre-blending stylings make for a hazy, dreamy listening experience. It’s fitting then that his new single, from his self-titled debut EP out now, romanticizes what he calls his “toxic love story with nicotine” with a tinge of nostalgia. Its moody visual features no shortage of cloudy skies, solo drives, and yes, vibes. —Carson Mlnarik You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online.
