Rising Compton rapper Buddy has announced his sophomore album Superghetto, due out March 25th via Cool Lil Company/RCA Records. As a preview, he shared the new single “Wait Too Long” featuring fellow LA native Blxst. Superghetto will arrive four years after Buddy’s major label debut Harlan & Alondra, but he’s considerably raised his profile since then by contributing extensively to the Dreamville compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III, opening for Vince Staples, and performing at NPR’s Tiny Desk. He also released “Black 2” — a track calling out those who like to appropriate and profit from Black culture — during the period of civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Buddy explained how his upbringing influenced Superghetto. ...
Singer-songwriter Sarah Beth Tomberlin is preparing to release a new album: The folk artist’s sophomore record i don’t know who needs to hear this… is due out April 29th via Saddle Creek. Along with its announcement today, Tomberlin has shared the new single “happy accident,” as well as North American and European tour dates for Spring 2022. Tomberlin wrote i don’t know who needs to hear this… with the intention of giving listeners an opportunity to hold the space to feel the depths of their emotions. Here, she blends the homey folk of Joni Mitchell with the moody pop of Frank Ocean and the chilling ambient of Grouper. Now that Tomberlin has settled into her new home base of Brooklyn among a fleet of musical collaborators, much of i don’t know who needs to hear this… was rec...
Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama are unleashing their witchcraft in the music video for their new single “Beg for You.” The Nick Harwood-directed visual for the infectious dance floor banger finds the two avant-garde stars quite literally on an altar, surrounded by other young women in shades of red, pink, and black as they’re forced into a ritual by a white-cloaked priest of the occult and his latex-clad assistant. “Oh don’t you leave me this way/ Won’t you wait another hour or two?/ You know I need you to stay/ Don’t make me beg for you/ ‘Cause I’ll beg for you” Charli belts as she slices her hand and her blood pours into a red pool for the priest to drink. However, the duo’s innate power ultimately wins out, taking over the other women in a freeing dance party as sparks explode around them....
Ibeyi have announced the coming release of their latest album Spell 31, out May 6th via XL Recordings. The duo also shared the new single “Sister 2 Sister” as a preview. The studio set will be the third album from the soul-R&B act, made up of Afro-French Cuban twins Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, following their 2015 self-titled debut and 2017 follow-up Ash. The 10-track LP features collaborations with the likes of Jorja Smith (“Lavender & Red Roses”) and BERWYN (“Rise Above”), as well as Pa Salieu on the previously-released lead single “Made of Gold.” On the joyful “Sister 2 Sister,” the fraternal twins celebrate their bond, name-dropping Shakira and spelling out the pronunciation of their stage name (which means “twins” in Yoruba, the language of the siblings’ West African ancestors...
Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have unveiled their new remix of “The Joker and the Queen.” The accompanying video, which can be seen below, continues the storyline from their 2012 collaboration, “Everything Has Changed.” Set ten years later and featuring the original actors, the Emil Nava-directed video captures the coming-of-age story of Ava and Jack, now 18 years old, as they head to university and embark on new adventures. Watch it below. The wistful ballad originally appeared as an album cut on Sheeran’s latest album =. Fans originally began speculating that Swift would appear on a new version of the song after her name was spotted multiple times in Easter Eggs from Sheeran’s “Overpass Graffiti” music video. Of course, this is far from the first time the good pals have collaborated togeth...
Foo Fighters have lots of respect for the great artists who have come before, whether that’s Bee Gees, Van Halen, or the Fraggles. That’s right, Dave Grohl and friends perform alongside their esteemed muppet peers in the new music video for “Fraggle Rock Rock.” The Foos unveiled the song last month to coincide with the debut of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock on Apple TV+. The video finds them sharing the stage — or trying to, at any rate, because some of these Fraggles aren’t very good at ceding the spotlight. Occasional tussle aside, everyone seems to be having fun, as you can see in the video below. Foo Fighters aren’t the only humans who will be venturing to Fraggle Rock. During the 13-episode run, Patti LaBelle performs “Shine on Us Now (Moon Come Soon),” ...
The Beths are back and pining for lasting change with the new song “A Real Thing.” The New Zealand rockers toggle between dreamy pop-infused guitars and a jarring, fretful chorus. Lead singer Liz Stokes opens with an image of regular people attempting to battle climate change. “Picking up the tires from the side of the road/ Gonna push back the coming tide,” she sings. But the chorus undercuts the sentiment: “Getting rhyme over reason,” she wails, implying that while such actions sound good in theory, they’re not helping in the long run. She continues, “It’s a sinister silly season/ Maybe we can end up meaning a real thing.” “‘A Real Thing’ is a kind of anxiety dream. It’s a bit muddled, a bit frantic, a bit sinister,” Stokes said in a statement. “‘A Real Thing’ is what came out ...
IDLES have expanded their 2022 international tour by adding a string of North American dates in the spring and fall. The first of the new dates is a March 23rd show in Mexico City. It will be followed by appearances during both weekends of Coachella sandwiched around concerts in Denver and Salt Lake City. The British post-punks will return to North America in late August for a second leg including stops in Kansas City, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Brooklyn, and Washington, DC. Alongside the tour announcement, IDLES shared a new music video for “CRAWL!,” a song off the band’s 2021 album, CRAWLER. In an exclusive Track by Track breakdown of the LP, vocalist Joe Talbot told Consequence that the song is “a good anthem for me to discuss with people who aren’t on the other side or who aren’t sober.” Adv...
Andy Shauf is continuing his hot streak today with two new songs, “Satan” and “Jacob Rose.” As per usual for the Toronto singer-songwriter, both songs are centered around his knack for poignant storytelling over pleasant melodies. While “Satan” is a subtly gorgeous acoustic number, its origins are much darker, inspired by Shauf’s upbringing in a strict evangelical household where he wasn’t allowed to participate in Halloween festivities. “The Christianity that I was brought up in said that believers went to heaven and non-believers went to hell,” Shauf said in a statement. “A sort of cartoon-like simplification of ancient texts. So with the lyrics of [“Satan”], I was trying to take this cartoon-like simplification of life (and death) and pair it with a cartoon-like version of this Christia...
