Following a successful return to the playa in 2022, the organizers of Burning Man are starting to prepare for next year’s edition by announcing its theme: Animalia. The theme was revealed in a blog post published in The Burning Man Journal by Stuart Mangrum, the director of Burning Man Project’s Philosophical Center.  “This year’s Burning Man theme will celebrate the animal world and our place in it—animals real and imagined, mythic and remembered—and explore the curious mental constructs that allow us to believe that imagined animals are real, real animals are imagined, and that somehow, despite all evidence to the contrary, mankind is somehow not part of the animal kingdom,” Mangrum wrote.  That may take a minute to digest, but it leaves room for in...

Floatie Races, Firetruck DJ Sets and More: Anything Goes at Dirtybird Campout

Why Costa Rica’s Utopian Jungle Festival, Envision, Is “Much More Potent Than Just a Good Party”

Picture this: You wake up in a custom two-floor bamboo treehouse, go to an hourlong Acro-Yoga session and then treat yourself to a refreshing elixir from The Village Witches. Then you attend a mind-blowing workshop about the mycelium network from none other than Paul Stamets himself, grab a bite to eat and you’re on your way to the beach to howl at the sunset before dancing the night away. Sounds dreamy, right? Believe it or not, this experience is real. Returning February 27th to March 6th for its 11th year, Envision Festival has been offering it for years. While many hear the word “festival” and conflate it with partying, the organizers of Envision have proven that it can—and should—be so much more than that. After celebrating its 25th event in 2022, it’s tough to question the power of Creamfields, whose organizers seem to further separate the festival from its contemporaries each year. They’ve since captured the hearts of the electronic dance music community at large—and haven’t let go. Creamfields takes pride in curating a diverse lineup each year, covering the electronic music spectrum in a way few festivals are able to. From hard-hitting techno and high-energy house music to uplifting trance and frenetic drum & bass, Creamfields’ annual lineups have something for everyone. And the festival’s stages are equally as impressive, with the m...
