Lollapalooza Staffer Arrested After Fabricating Mass Shooting Threat to Get Out of Work Early: Report

A Lollapalooza security staffer is currently in jail after allegedly fabricating a mass shooting threat.  The Chicago Tribune reports the staffer sought to get out of work early and intended to use the threat as cover. On the second day of the long-running Chicago music festival, 18-year-old Janya B. Williams reportedly sent a message to a colleague from a phone number which read, “Mass shooting at 4pm location Lollapalooza. We have150 targets.” The number was allegedly created via TextNow, a free, internet-based phone service platform which allows users to register real phone numbers. Janya B. 10 More Years of Lollapalooza: Festival Strikes New Deal With City of Chicago

For all of us on the Lollapolooza train—we’re not getting it off of it anytime soon. Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced that the city’s long-running music festival, held annually in Grant Park, will take place for at least another 10 years. Lightfoot publicly called Lollapalooza “not only a significant economic driver for our city, but a truly iconic Chicago summer festival.” The Chicago Tribune reports a contract between C3 Presents and the city of Chicago calls for the Chicago Park District to receive a share of all C3 revenue streams ranging from 5% to 20%, including admission, goods and services, licensing sales, sponsorships and streaming. BUKU Music + Art Project has announced an indefinite hiatus. Organizers of the beloved New Orleans festival have issued a statement on social media announcing that its 2023 iteration will not move forward.
