Sundance Review: The Hilarious and Authentic Theater Camp Takes Center Stage

This review is part of our coverage of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. The Pitch: “You need to know that only 3% of people make it. The rest end up in a mental facility — or a Go Go box in Hell’s Kitchen.” Welcome to AdirondACTS, a cozy, scrappy theater camp where such nuggets of wisdom are imparted upon young thespians. Over the course of the summer, we see the minutiae of theater camp play out in a mockumentary-style film, sharply directed by Nick Lieberman and Molly Gordon (both making their feature directorial debuts). First framed as a documentary following AdirondACTS founder Joan (Amy Sedaris), things begin to go awry when she falls into a coma — a result of “the first Bye Bye Birdie-related injury in the history of Passaic County” — leaving former campers, best friends, and devote...

MR. BUNGLE, THE MELVINS And SPOTLIGHTS To Join Forces For ‘Geek Show’ May 2023 Tour

MR. BUNGLE, THE MELVINS and SPOTLIGHTS join forces this spring, resurrecting Ipecac Recordings‘ storied “Geek Show” tour, with the labelmates performing several shows across the Western U.S. “The ‘Geek Show’ tours of the past were some of the best live show experiences I’ve ever had,” says MR. BUNGLE frontman Mike Patton. “Hanging out with friends that are also some of my favorite musicians is a great way to spend a couple weeks. This iteration is a mindblower. You will want to be the first one there and the last to leave this party! The mighty MELVINS and SPOTLIGHTS will prove to be a challenge for MR. BUNGLE to follow. I only wish we could take this package around the globe.” Ipecac Recordings co-owner Greg Werckman adds: “...

The former ROB ZOMBIE and MARILYN MANSON axeman joined CRÜE as the replacement for founding guitarist Mick Mars, who announced last October he would no longer tour with the legendary rock act because of his long struggles with degenerative disease ankylosing spondylitis. Earlier today, MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx took to his Instagram to write: “42 years and I still get excited about the first day of band rehearsal. Here we go………..” J...

SCORPIONS Singer KLAUS MEINE: ‘It’s Frustrating To See Mankind Is Doing The Same Mistakes Again And Again’

In a brand new interview with the French SCORPIONS fan club Crazyscorps, the band’s lead singer Klaus Meine spoke about the lyrical inspiration for the recent SCORPIONS song “When Tomorrow Comes” in which he appears to be “angry about mankind.” Asked if feels that humanity is on the brink of extinction, the 74-year-old musician said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “When you see what’s going on in the world, with climate change, with all those conflicts — from the Middle East to the Ukraine and Russia — and when you see what’s going on, you get angry. “With the end of the Cold War, the world seemed to be wide open; a window was open for a peaceful future,” he continued. “And now we it’s the opposite. And we’...

Ed Reed Out As Bethune-Cookman University Coach After Video Rant

HipHopWired Featured Video Ed Reed made quite the splash when it was announced that he would be taking over head coaching duties at famed HBCU, Bethine-Cookman University. However, the 44-year-old Hall of Famer is out as coach after the university discovered a video that painted the institution as unfavorable. Ed Reed and his hire by Bethune-Cookman was celebrated widely and looked to signal a potential rise of relevancy in the college football ranks as it relates to HBCUs. As it stands, Reed and the university entered into preliminary talks to sign a contract and it all looked to be in the books but there seemed to be some issues within the athletic department and beyond. Similarly to Deion Sanders, Reed’s legendary stature as it relates to his prowess on the football field was assumed to...
