In a new interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Pepper Keenan spoke about DOWN‘s plans to resume touring in 2022. Plans for select shows featuring Keenan, vocalist Philip Anselmo, guitarist Kirk Windstein, drummer Jimmy Bower and bassist Pat Bruders performing DOWN‘s 1995-released, now-classic debut, “NOLA” in its entirety to celebrate its 25th anniversary were sidelined due to the global pandemic. “Everybody’s just trying to come up for air,” Pepper said. “We played Psycho [Las Vegas festival] in Vegas and we played at Fillmore in New Orleans, and they were both slamming shows. We did live streams. It was just so bizarre to be sitting on your ass for a year — literally. We had shit planned all over the fucking place — both [DOWN and CORROSION...
Australian metalcore trailblazers THE AMITY AFFLICTION have announced a limited-edition seven-inch EP “Somewhere Beyond The Blue”, with the third and final single to be released out today, “Death Is All Around”. The seven-inch title “Somewhere Beyond The Blue” is an extrapolation from a message one of singer Ahren Stringer‘s close friends sent him not long before he sadly took his own life, “I’ll be in space.” The EP, which will include “Death Is All Around” as well as the previous two singles “Like Love” and “Give Up The Ghost”, is available for pre-order in five variants. “Death Is All Around” was heavily influenced by everything that has gone on globally over the last two years. &...
RATING: 8/10 The metal world is roughly divided into two camps: those who think BABYMETAL are a splendid and wildly entertaining force for heavy metal joy, and those who would rather have their limbs sawn off with a rusty Samurai sword than ever hear the Japanese crew’s pop-metal hybrid again. A thunderous encapsulation of the BABYMETAL live experience, captured at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan, “10 Babymetal Budokan” is not aimed at the latter camp. If you haven’t been won over by the exuberant, skewed silliness of the whole enterprise yet — or by the startling brutality and precision of the music itself — then a 70-minute live album is definitely not going to change your mind. But for everybody else, this is a stupidly entertaining reminder that BABYMETAL transc...

Best Coast are gearing up for the deluxe edition of their latest studio album, Always Tomorrow. In anticipation of its release on January 7th, the band has shared one of the bonus tracks, “Leading,” featuring backing vocals from the teenaged riot grrrl group The Linda Lindas. “Leading” is a dose of bratty, guitar-driven power pop, which vocalist Bethany Cosentino describes in a statement as a song about “trying to find hope during the apocalypse.” The Linda Lindas — who, if you’ll recall, nabbed a coveted signing to Epitaph Records earlier this year thanks to their viral LA Public Library performance — flesh out the track with soaring harmonies. Corresponding with its punky sonics, the lyrics of “Leading” find Cosentino grappling with reality: “I’m a believer in a healthy dose of pes...

Its “I don’t wanna be alive” refrain may have become a jokey TikTok trend, but Logic’s anti-suicide anthem “1-800-273-8255” really did save lives. A new study from the BMJ, a peer-reviewed medical trade journal from the British Medical Association, ties performances of the song to a decrease in suicide rates among teenagers. In the days after Logic performed the song — which takes its name from the number of the US National Suicide Prevention Hotline — at the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2017, the organization said calls to the lifeline increased by 50%. In addition to this, the BMJ studied suicide rates around this time frame, as well as around the song’s April 2017 release, and around a 2018 performance of the song at the Grammy Awards. In doing so, they found a 5.5% reduction in sui...
