A new single from Aaliyah has been released: Below, listen to the new song “Poison,” featuring the Weeknd. The release of “Poison” comes after much of Aaliyah’s music arrived to streaming services for the first time. A posthumous album from the singer is coming soon, too, via Blackground Records 2.0 and Empire. Barry Hankerson, Blackground founder and Aaliyah’s uncle, told Billboard earlier this year that the new album would feature the Weeknd, Drake, Future, and others. The streaming releases this year arrived amid a dispute between Hankerson and the Estate of Aaliyah Haughton. “Poison” follows the release of the Weeknd’s new single with FKA twigs, “Tears in the Club,” as well as his other new tracks with Rosalía and Post Malone. With no power comes no responsibility — but it does come with a reboot. Filmmaker Matthew Vaughn has revealed that he has eyes on a “big reboot” of the cult favorite R-rated comic book movie franchise Kick-Ass. Speaking at a virtual press junket for his upcoming The King’s Man, Vaughn was asked about another of comic book creator Mark Millar’s other successful film adaptations: Kick-Ass. The black comedy came out in 2010, just at the genesis of the superhero movie craze. Starring Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage, and Chloë Grace Moretz in her breakout role, the film brought a level of ultra-violence and foul language to crime fighting that received as much outrage as it did fan appreciation. A sequel followed in 2013, and Vaughn is now looking to restart the blood...
Kim Jong-un’s efforts to eradicate the K-Pop music that he considers a “vicious cancer” have resulted in at least seven people being publicly executed in North Korea, according to a new report by a human rights group. Via the New York Times, the study comes from the Seoul-based Transitional Justice Working Group (TJWG), which interviewed 683 North Korean defectors since 2015. The authors attempted to map public executions in the decade since Kim became Supreme Leader in 2011, while also noting that public killings were on the decline as secret executions surged. Of the seven known executions for watching or distributing K-pop videos, six took place between 2012 and 2014 in the city of Hyesan on the Chinese border. Local people, especially students, were brought to view the violent spe...

Aaliyah’s original catalog hit streaming services for the first time earlier this year, and now, a posthumous album is on the way via Blackground Records 2.0 and EMPIRE. The late artist’s estate has just shared the first look at the record with the song “Poison,” a collaboration with The Weeknd. Most of Aaliyah’s music had been out of print for a decade because Barry Hankerson, Blackground Records founder and Aaliyah’s uncle, refused to license her catalog to streaming services. Only her 1994 debut, the R. Kelly-produced Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number, had been on streaming services because Hankerson didn’t control its masters. In August, however, Hankerson revealed in an interview with Billboard that he had struck a deal with EMPIRE to release the rest of her catalog, as well as...

Will Beyonce gift the BeyHive a special TikTok video for Christmas? It’s not out of question. The 28-time Grammy Award winner may have just joined TikTok. The Beyonce handle is now live, and boasts upwards of 50,000 followers. Though, to date, the account follows no one and has shared nothing. Queen Bey isn’t a prolific user of social media. Her Twitter account has tweeted just twice in the past two years and follows only 10 other accounts. Her Instagram is considerably more active with its 224 million followers, but, again, the account follows no one. Beyonce’s husband, Jay-Z, last month briefly launched an Instagram account, to promote his Netflix production The Harder They Fall. The account was live for a matter of days.
