bell hooks, an influential Black feminist scholar who approached cultural critique from the intersections of race, class, and gender, has died. Her family shared the news on social media, saying that she had died in the early morning of December 15. hooks’ sister Gwenda Motley confirmed to The Washington Post that the cause of death was end-stage renal failure. She was 69 years old. In her work, hooks challenged the power structures of white heteropatriarchy and interrogated their limits, examining how they oppress individuals and communities alike. Her abundance of writing—academic papers, critical essays, poetry, children’s books, and more—encouraged loving communion, linked by themes of self-liberation and empowerment through compassion and vulnerability. Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson have announced a co-headlining 2022 tour. The 15-date trek—dubbed the ÑBA Leather World Tour—will include special guests the Alchemist and Boldy James as support. Martin Scorsese and the Band’s The Last Waltz Coming to Criterion Collection

The Last Waltz—Martin Scorsese’s iconic documentary capturing the Band’s 1976 farewell concert—is getting an official Criterion Collection release. Scorsese’s 1978 film will tout 4K digital restoration, audio commentary versions from Martin Scorsese, Robbie Robertson, and Mavis Staples, and others, a new interview with Scorsese conducted by critic David Fear, outtakes, and more. It will be available on Blu-ray and 4K UHD starting March 29, 2022. The Last Waltz was filmed at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom on Thanksgiving, 1976. LCD Soundsystem Release Statement About Remaining Brooklyn Residency Dates

LCD Soundsystem have released a statement saying that they intend not to cancel the remaining dates in their Brooklyn residency, despite surging COVID-19 case numbers in New York. The band posted it Friday night (December 17), explaining that they had considered the risks against the demand for the remaining performances on December 19, 20 and 21. “we said we would play, and people are coming, so we are playing,” the note read, though it also had a cautionary tone: “us playing the shows is in no way an indicator that it’s safe to attend.” See the rest here. Electronic duo TNGHT have released the new song “Brick Figures,” as well as its accompanying music video. Listen to the track below. The production team comprised of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice released “Brick Figures” as part of Glasgow label LuckyMe’s annual Advent Calendar charity compilation, which also features songs from Jacques Greene, Cid Rim, HIRA, and Seiho.
