Jazz artist Sam Gendel has announced a new album called Cookup, comprising reimagined versions of R&B songs by 112, Ginuwine, Aaliyah, All-4-One, Soul 4 Real, Beyoncé, Joe, Erykah Badu, Mario, SWV, and Boyz II Men originally released between 1992 and 2004. It’s due out February 24 via Nonesuch. Check out his cover of 112’s “Anywhere” featuring Meshell Ndegeocello below. Gendel recorded Cookup in California with Gabe Noel and Philippe Melanson. For his 2020 Nonesuch LP Satin Doll, the trio reconstructed jazz standards in a similar fashion. In the years since, Gendel has covered Vampire Weekend and released several more records, including the Nonesuch effort DRM, the 52-song Fresh Bread, and the Antonia Cytrynowicz collaboration Live a Little. Kali Uchis is back with the music video for the new song “I Wish You Roses.” The visual, directed by Cho Gi-Seok in South Korea, features plenty of floral imagery. Check it out below. “I Wish You Roses,” produced by Dylan Wiggins and Josh Crocker, follows Uchis’ recent songs “La Única” and “No Hay Ley.” She explained of her new single, “This song is about being able to release people with love. It could be a friend, a lover, or someone else, but the point is to celebrate releasing people from your life without being resentful or bitter.” Uchis released her latest studio album, Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞, in 2020. She’s performing at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April.

Dylan Brady and Laure Les are set to release their second album, 10,000 gecs, in late March, and, now, they’ve announced that they’ll be touring North American in support of the album. Machine Girl are set to open for the band on tour, with select dates featuring Fever Ray as co-headliner. David Crosby has died at the age of 81 after a long illness, his wife, Jan Dance, announced. The singer-songwriter was one of the co-founders of the iconic folk rock band the Byrds. He went on to achieve massive success as one-third of Crosby, Stills & Nash and as part of the on-again, off-again quartet Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. His influential solo debut, If I Could Only Remember My Name, arrived in 1971. Born in California in 1941, David Crosby developed an interest in music when his older brother gave him a guitar as a teenager. In the mid-1960s, after spending time in Chicago and New York, Crosby co-founded the Byrds in Los Angeles with Gene Clark and Roger McGuinn.
