HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty / Netflix If you’re one of those people who share their Netflix password with friends, count your days because the streaming service is coming for you. Spotted on The Verge, Netflix will begin cracking down on password sharing “more broadly” toward the end of the first quarter of 2023, the streaming giant announced in its earnings report. “While our terms of use limit use of Netflix to a household, we recognize this is a change for members who share their account more broadly,” Netflix writes. “As we roll out paid sharing, members in many countries will also have the option to pay extra if they want to share Netflix with people they don’t live with.” Netflix fully expects the crackdown will cause a “cancel reaction” in each market in the ...

David Crosby died earlier this week, and, now, Neil Young has paid tribute to the musician. Young published the statement on his Neil Young Archives website, mourning the loss of his friend and Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young bandmate, whom he called “the soul of CSNY.” “David is gone, but his music lives on,” Young wrote. “The soul of CSNY, David’s voice and energy were at the heart of our band. His great songs stood for what we believed in and it was always fun and exciting when we got to play together.” Find the full statement below. Crosby joined Stephen Stills and Graham Nash to form Crosby, Stills, & Nash in 1969. They released their self-titled debut album later that year and were joined by Young for their 1970 album, Déjà Vu. The album was followed by a series of releases und...
Last July, Beyoncé unveiled the long-awaited Renaissance, a multi-Grammy-nominated, critically vaunted album that explicitly celebrated queer dance music. She has not yet announced a tour behind the album, but this weekend several journalists and celebrities might be the first to see the singer perform live for the first time since a Kobe and Gianna Bryant tribute set in 2020. (At the Oscars last March, she aired a pre-taped performance of her King Richard song, “Be Alive.”) Per an invitation that many publications (including Pitchfork) received from the musician’s team, the singer is hosting an all-expenses-paid luxury weekend in Dubai, taking place January 20 to 22. The invite is for the unofficial opening of Atlantis the Royal hotel, and begins as follows: “Beyoncé invites you to a week...

Both releases include contributions from Danny L Harle, who’s featured on the new album alon...

Brazilian DJ and music producer Maz is on the rise. Over the years, Maz has performed at some of the biggest clubs and music festivals in Brazil, including Lollapalooza, Rock in Rio, Universo Paralello, Planeta Brasil and Laroc Club, to name a few. It’s undeniable that Maz has made a name for himself within the red-hot Brazilian electronic dance music scene. In August of 2022, Maz teamed up with fellow Brazilian DJ Antdot to deliver a rework of “Todo Homem,” originally produced by Zeca Veloso—son of Grammy-award winner Caetano Veloso, one of the leading Brazil...
Fans of Aphex Twin are about to have a field day with his latest cryptic teaser. A mysterious link bearing Twin’s insignia has gone live, and likely portends the enigmatic producer’s first live performance in four years. The website features a flurry of frenetic pixels dancing across the screen, ebbing and flowing to make out a single word: “LONDON.” It didn’t take long for sleuths to put two and two together and determine the web address likely refers to the date of August 19th, 2023, which aligns precisely with the timing of the London-based music festival, Field Day. The accompanying email intake form on the arcane website is additionally tied to Waxarch Limited, another entity tied to the annual event hosted in Victoria Park, according to&nb...
If electronic music is at all subject to the Darwinian principle of “survival of the fittest,” then Space Laces is the genre’s apex predator. The virtuosic producer has always been a dependable source for crafting inimitable, otherworldly soundscapes, but he’s even raising his own industry-leading standards with his latest track, “Survive.” His opening salvo of 2023 is a rough-and-tumble dubstep smash. With its seismic impacts and electrifying push-and-pull of tense riddim synth leads, it’s the fiercely unrelenting combination that fans of Space Laces have come to know and love. Stentorian basslines clash at full force in this sonic battle tied to seemingly life or death stakes. But in true Space Laces fashion, the catharsis of his opening sequence...

Hold on tight, possibly to your butt cheeks, because South Park is back with Season 26 on February 8th. To celebrate the return, Comedy Central has shared a teaser trailer with the words, “There’s no place like here,” and a Season 9 clip of Butters receiving an unfortunate anal probe. Will that hard-to-forget moment get a callback in the new season? The teaser doesn’t say, and considering the short turnaround times under which Trey Parker and Matt Stone work, it’s possible that they themselves don’t know, because none of Season 26 has been written yet. More outstanding questions include, how many episodes will be in Season 26? Season 25 was comprised of only six episodes, though the creators stayed busy with four Paramount+ specials: South Park: Post Covid, South Park: Post Covid...
