National Museum of African American History Announces Book on Black Music’s Global Impact

In a press release, the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture announced the publication of a new book celebrating the impact of Black music on American society and the world. The book contains essays and images of artifacts that are part of the museum's permanent collection including items such as a hymnal owned by Harriet Tubman and jazz legend Charlie Parker's saxophone. Brooklyn Museum Honors Virgil Abloh’s Legacy With Stimulative Exhibition

The life of DJ and fashion design visionary Virgil Abloh will be remembered in a reflective exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. Open through January 29th, 2023, the exhibition, dubbed “Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech,” highlights the late creative’s epoch-making journey through many facets of architecture, design, fashion and music. It was curated by Michael Darling and originally opened at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago in 2019.  Prior to his tragic death in November 2021 from a rare form of cancer, Abloh had already spun up ideas with curator and writer Antwaun Sargent for the Brooklyn Museum’s exhibit. Swedish Royalty Inaugurate the Avicii Experience Museum In Stockholm

The museum dedicated to the dance music legend Avicii was welcomed to Stockholm by some royal guests. To celebrate the grand opening of The Avicii Experience, Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia stopped by to honor one of their country’s musical icons and cut the ribbon to inaugurate the museum. They were joined by some of the executives behind the exhibit and Klas Bergling, father of Avicii and creator of the Tim Bergling Foundation. Proceeds from the museum will support the foundation’s goal to destigmatize mental health and prevent suicides. The British Museum, the world’s first national public museum, currently holds 700 pieces of the Benin Bronzes collection, more than any other museum and other institutions globally, a former United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. John Campbell has said. Nigerian government receives stolen Ile-Ife artefact from Mexico

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Chief Geoffrey Onyeama, on Thursday in Abuja received a stolen Ile-Ife artefact recovered from Mexico. Receiving the artefact, he called for a more secured border to prevent future occurrence of theft. Onyeama collected the artefact from Dr Yakubu Dadu, Charge d’Affaires of the Nigerian Mission in Mexico. The minister hailed the Embassy’s efforts in recovering the artefact. He said that the interventions of Nigerian Envoys in recovering stolen possessions of the country shows the important works they were doing as against negative reports of Nigerian missions on social media. FIFA lodges fresh criminal complaints against Sepp Blatter

Getty Images FIFA has lodged a criminal complaint against former president Joseph “Sepp” Blatter over the finances of a museum in Zurich, Switzerland bringing the name of the ex-President into the fray. The football world governing body lodged the complaint on Tuesday. The involvement of Bladder and other former officials in the FIFA museum project is the crux of the latest allegation of financial impropriety against the 84-year-old, who resigned from his post as president in 2015 amid a corruption scandal.
