Nicki Minaj had quite the night at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, but her fun didn’t end with receiving this year’s Video Vanguard Award. The honoree took to Instagram on Monday (Aug. 29) to share a video from the Republic Records VMAs afterparty with none other than Taylor Swift. “The big winner of the night is the beautiful Taylor Swift. Barbs, I know you love her; we all love her,” she told the camera over booming music as she and the superstar cozied up together. Indeed, Swift walked away from the ceremony with her record-breaking third win for video of the year (for All Too Well: The Short Film) as well as Moon Persons for best longform video and best direction. Lizzo took to social media on Monday (Aug. 29) to show off her run-in with one-half of BLACKPINK at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. In a TikTok, the Special singer approached Lisa and Jisoo for a cute video on behalf of a follower, who requested, “TAKE A SELFIE WITH BLACKPINK FOR ME!!!! PLEASE.” While fans can’t hear what the K-pop idols and Lizzo are saying to each other due to the latter’s new single “2 Be Loved (Am I Ready)” playing over top of the clip, the singer assured her followers, “THEY ARE SO SWEET” in the caption. Both Lizzo and BLACKPINK were among the performers to hit the stage during the awards show on Sunday night, with the former playing a medley of her No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit “About Damn Time” and “2 Be Loved” and the girl group making their U.S. awards show debut w...
Already the winner of the Push Performance, Olivia Rodrigo made her VMAs debut with a performance of “good 4 u.” She entered the stage in grand fashion, coming from the sky before launching into her pop punk-infused song. Watch her entrance below. Rodrigo was accompanied by a slew of backing dancers (all wearing masks) as confetti dropped from the Barclays Center’s ceiling. [embedded content] [embedded content] Earlier this year, we spoke with Rodrigo about her instant success, but all wasn’t well for the emerging star. She was called out by Courtney Love for allegedly ripping off the Live Through This cover on her debut album, Sour. You can read our review of that album here. Kim Petras took to the stage at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards pre-show to perform her new single “Future Starts Now.” Watch it below. Flanked by a bevy of backup dancers wearing raspberry berets, opera gloves, and baby pink harnesses, the trans icon in the making lived out her full pop star fantasy belting out the house music-inspired bop in a dress and boots designed to look like sticky, melting bubblegum. “One day, everyone will notice/ The world is yours and you should know it/ So don’t let love get out of focus/ Don’t give up, the future starts now/ I know you can take the pressure/ Turn it into something better/ So take the pain and make it pleasure/ Don’t give up, the future starts now,” she sang while nailing her choreography, before revealing a second, skimpier bubblegum-inspired...
The Weeknd just took MTV back to the days when it would play music videos more frequently. The Toronto singer’s Sunday night, New York City rooftop performance of his chart-topping single “Blinding Lights” kicked off a night of socially distant awards. The ’80s-inspired cut off his retro After Hours record has seen some mega-performances before, notably his January gig on Jimmy Kimmel Live. But Sunday’s take on the track was bigger, bolder and synth-ier. While it mirrored his previous performances of the cut at first, it soon saw the superstar dance around on a rooftop in red akin to Spider-Man, with fireworks backing him to really drive it home. Among the weekend’s six VMA noms are nods for Artist of the Year and Video of the Year. We’ll just have to see how many Moonpeople he goes home w...

Despite the country’s recent surge in coronavirus cases, the 2020 MTV VMAs is officially a go. Governor Andrew Cuomo of New York made the announcement on Monday, revealing that this year’s ceremony will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on August 30th. The news came during a larger press conference regarding Phase III of NYC’s reopening process, which begins July 6th and includes eased restrictions on things like indoor dining.
