Brazilian DJ and dance music producer Vintage Culture has taken the #1 spot in 1001Tracklists’ “Top 101 Producers” list for 2021. David Guetta, Kryder, Armin van Buuren, and John Summit follow. This year’s list contains artists from 27 different countries. The United Kingdom and Netherlands total nearly 40% of the artists represented. 33 artists made their first appearance and eight have re-entered. AVIRA, Armand van Helden, KC Lights, and MARTEN HØRGER were the producers that saw the biggest rise within the list. 1001Tracklists Guetta championed this list back in 2019 for his pioneering future rave sound. His continued success over the years paved the way for his close friend and collaborator MORTEN to rise through the rankings to #20. Recommended Articles In addit...
It’s hard to believe David Guetta and Sia‘s “Titanium” was released almost a decade ago. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of Guetta’s Nothing But The Beat album, he has joined forces with MORTEN, his “future rave” partner-in-crime, to give “Titanium” a 2021 makeover. Despite the passing of time since his fifth studio album, he says the song still has a special place in his heart. “It’s probably my favorite all time track I have ever created and the one I love playing live,” Guetta gushed in a press release. “Listening to seas of people singing so loudly together in unison at my shows around the world feels so surreal.” The rework reinforces “Titanium” as a nostalgia machine, breathing new l...

It all started with a feeling—and in the case of David Guetta and MORTEN‘s future rave genre, it was a pretty damn good one. The sound has exploded from their laptops since its debut in 2019, adopted and explored by artists around the world. Now, it’s one of the hottest club staples of 2021. With sonic roots in techno, house and trance music, the genre’s signature drops first appeared in Guetta and MORTEN’s “Never Be Alone” with Aloe Blacc. “It’s music that is kind of underground but produced in a way that is so big that it can appeal to a festival dance floor,” Guetta told us in 2019. But as much as the pair could have anticipated its rise—”I have no doubt that a lot of DJs are going to do it very soon,” Guetta said—the...
Since early last year, David Guetta and MORTEN have been presenting their freshly minted “future rave” sound to the masses. They recently collided on “Save My Life” with Lovespeake, followed by “Dreams” with Lanie Gardner. Today they return once again for “Impossible” with John Martin. The unmistakable fusion of distinct and varied sounds acts as the centerpiece of “Impossible.” Martin’s signature tenor effortlessly guides listeners through a pounding bassline and whirling synths, putting all three artists’ signature sounds on display. Over the past year, Guetta and MORTEN have unveiled a handful of hit collaborations to propagate their patented “future rave” sound, including a massive EP. Fans can ex...
With more than 80 million likes and 6 million followers to his name, 37-year-old TikTok star Nathan Apodaca, better known as Doggface, was an unlikely sensation, making national headlines back in September with a viral video set to the tune of Fleetwood Mac‘s “Dreams.” Turns out, the soothing clip of Apodaca peacefully longboarding and sipping Ocean Spray Cran-Raspberry juice turned out to be exactly what the Internet needed. The Idaho native’s video had already garnered support from countless celebrities and brands—including a copycat clip from Mac Fleetwood himself and a gifted pickup truck from Ocean Spray—when David Guetta and MORTEN added themselves to his list of fans. They casted Apodaca in the star role of their music video for thei...
This year, the team at EDM.com is proud to publish four installments of “Best of 2020” coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers, and Songs. DJing and music production are different. But the difference between the two is like a wallflower—it hides in plain sight, and it is vastly misunderstood. Many artists do both, but not all DJs produce music and not all music producers DJ. Producers create the music that a DJ will then play out to crowds—it’s an important distinction that eludes many. Like a sleek Lamborghini driving from one coast to another, the art of DJing is a stylish means to an end. And music production is the engine that powers it. To publish a “Top DJ” list would be to undermine the originality, ingenuity, and dauntless imagin...
We would like to think Stevie Nicks is feeling a sense of pride seeing the overnight success of young singer Lanie Gardner. Gardner’s life was flipped upside down after a TikTok video of her singing a cover of Fleetwood Mac‘s iconic song “Dreams” went viral. Now, with the backing of two of EDM’s biggest stars David Guetta and MORTEN, she is in the spotlight for a much-deserved second time. The trio has released their electronic rendition of “Dreams,” doubling down on the explosive growth of Gardner’s scintillating cover. The “future rave” tandem completely transformed the Fleetwood Mac classic, but Gardner keeps its pure essence alive with her hypnotizing vocals. With its entrancing synths and soaring house drop, this cover h...
