Afenifere leader: We’re not asking Fulanis to vacate Yorubaland

Pa Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader of the Pan-Yoruba sociocultural group, Afenifere, on Saturday said the group was not against the continued stay of the Fulanis in Yorubaland. He said the group is only asking the criminals among the Fulani to vacate the land. Pa Adebanjo also reiterated his call on President Muhammadu Buhari to restructure Nigeria, saying only restructuring can save the country from its near precipice. Kwara government inaugurates transition committees for 16 councils

The Kwara Government has inaugurated Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) chairmen of the 16 Local Government Areas of the state, charging them to be prudent, transparent, accountable and fair to all. The Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kayode Alabi, inaugurated the committee chairmen on Thursday in Ilorin. Alabi explained that the TICs have been appointed by Gov. Fuel tanker loses control, kills 16, destroys 30 houses in Kwara

A fully loaded lorry tanker with fuel, lost control in Gaika area of Jebba in Moro local government area of Kwara state, on Wednesday, killing about sixteen persons while no fewer than thirty buildings and properties worth millions of naira gutted fire. Newsmen gathered that the incident occurred at about 9 am when the tanker was driving along the popular Gaika road in Jebba and suddenly lost control . The tanker was said to have violently hit the car in its rear which instantly caught fire, before it ran into the nearby buildings, not less than thirty, and burnt them all. Kwara records three new virus cases

Three new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) were recorded in the last 24 hours in Kwara, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye, the Spokesman of the state’s Technical Committee on COVID-19, made this known in a statement on Monday in Ilorin. Ajakaye, also the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said that this was the situation as at 9.30 p.m. on Sunday. Newsmen report that the state now has a total of 954 confirmed cases of the virus. According to Ajakaye, out of the 954 confirmed cases, 778 patients have been discharged, leaving 151 active cases in the state. He stated that 5,087 tests were conducted, while 5,103 tested negative with 25 deaths recorded so far in the state, and 30 tests were pending. Two coronavirus patients discharged in Kwara

Two patients who tested negative for the coronavirus pandemic were discharged in Kwara on Friday. The state has not recorded any new case of the virus in the last 18 hours. Rafiu Ajakaye, the Spokesman for the Technical Committee on COVID-19, said these in Ilorin on Saturday. He said total cases of the virus in Kwara stood at 888 of which 649 patients had been discharged, leaving the state with 216 active cases. According to him, 23 deaths have so far been recorded, while 2,990 tested negative for the virus out of the 3, 982 tests carried out with 104 tests pending. Ajakaye said the state ministry of health indicated that the pandemic had spread to 10 out of the 16 local government areas in Kwara. Seven travellers arrested in Kwara for ‘violating lockdown order’

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Kwara has arrested seven persons for allegedly violating the lockdown order put in place in the state to check the spread of coronavirus. The command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Ayeni Olasunkanmi, made this known in a statement in Ilorin on Tuesday. “In a swift response to a distress call from the public on Sobi FM radio yesterday, our personnel were immediately deployed to the scene at the expressway, Shao junction, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara. “A trailer fully loaded with passengers was held by the community with the view of preventing the spread of coronavirus,” Olasunkanmi said. Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Saturday said that the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the country to come to terms with the reality of migrating to a full IT driven economy. The governor made the call when he joined the government-backed virtual digital training for youths in the state amid a call on participants to compete to evolve with homegrown technological solutions to local problems. At least 3,195 young people are involved in the digital training which is supported by the Grow with Google and Wootlab Foundation.
