Appeal court president inaugurates special court sitting 270 cases in Jos
The President of the Court of Appeal, Hon Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, has organised a special court sitting in Jos where about 270 Motions and Appeals would be addressed for quick dispensation of justice. Justice Dongban-Mensem disclosed this on Monday during the inauguration of the special court sitting, held at the Court of Appeal Jos Division, Plateau State. She noted that the essence of the special sitting was to ensure quick dispensation of justice over motions and Appeals that have not been heard. She described the special sitting which started from Abuja, Lagos and Jos as apt and said any Court of Appeal Division that apply for the special court sitting would be given the opportunity. Borno government shutdowns another IDP camp in Maiduguri
The Borno government has shutdown another Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp located at the state NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri. Newsmen report that the closing of the camp, housing about I,464 households was done by officials of the state government on Monday in Maiduguri. The camp was the second to be closed by the government in three days in its bid to return all IDPs back to their communities. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Mustafa Gubio, the state’s Commissioner for Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement, said the closing of the camp was to allow for renovation work to take place at the NYSC orientation camp. Two ‘killed’, one injured as robbers attack bullion van in Ondo
Two persons were feared killed while one was injured as bank robbers attacked a bullion van at Bolorunduro area in Ondo East council area of Ondo state. An unspecified amount of money were reportedly carted away by the robbers numbering over eight. The robbery attack occurred at about 5:30pm. Eyewitness account said that the robbers who came in two vehicles including a Lexus car ambushed the bullion van at Elemoso village along Akure/ Ondo highway. Angry mob kills five ‘armed robbers’ in Abuja
Five suspected armed robbers met their Waterloo on Tuesday in Apo area of Abuja as angry traders fished them out and killed them instantly in what could best be described as jungle justice. Newsmen gathered that the heavily armed robbers robbed PoS operators and traders around Apo Mechanic Village successfully. Luck, however, ran out on them when one of the traders recognised one of them and led traders to his house. Police nab ‘murderer’ of vigilante member in Delta
The Police Command in Delta says it has apprehended a middle-aged man over alleged murder of a member of a vigilante group in the state. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, DSP Edafe Bright, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Warri. Bright said that the suspect, a 25-year-old man, had admitted to the crime. The police spokesman identified the murder victim as Onajite Okolejo, a member of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Zone 12, Hausa Quarters, Warri. The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Friday witnessed increased traffic due to huge number of passengers travelling to different parts of the country to celebrate Easter. According to NAN reports, flights from Abuja to other routes were fully booked before Thursday. Police arrest 17 kidnap, robbery suspects in Sokoto
The Police Command in Sokoto State on Thursday said it arrested no fewer than 17 suspects over armed robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state. Troops foil Boko Haram attack, rescue passengers in Borno
Nigerian troops have foiled an attack from Boko Haram and ISWAP and rescued passengers along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway in the Auno axis of Borno State. Though the insurgents’ attack was repelled, a military intelligence officer disclosed that several passengers onboard commercial vehicles along a major road in Auno were rescued by troops, after the terrorists’ onslaught.
