Gold rises on renewed US stimulus hope, dollar falls

Spot gold rose 0.3 percent to $1,910.56 an ounce at 3:37pm, New York time, after falling as much as 0.5 percent. Following the successful launch of Denver’s first drive-in rave series, another monumental show is going down in the Mile-High City.  Local electronic music events company Q-VENTS has announced 5280 Drive-In, a new drive-in rave concept taking place on Monday, August 3rd. The concert will be held at the Denver Mart, which establishes it as the first of its kind in Denver County. Bass music vets Minnesota and Buku are headlining the show, bringing their signature trap and dubstep flavors along with a lineup of soon-to-be-announced supporting artists. Probe demanded over Latino police shooting death in Los Angeles

Los Angeles officials Tuesday demanded an independent probe into the death of a young Latino security guard, whose shooting by police has fueled more protests against police brutality and racism. Andres Guardado, 18, was killed last week after a deputy fired multiple gunshots in Gardena, Los Angeles County. Police say Guardado was shot when he fled from an auto repair shop after he “produced a handgun.” Guardado’s death came during a period of nationwide demonstrations that began with the death in police custody of an African American man, George Floyd, in Minnesota last month. Protesters topple down 120-year-old statue of Confederate general in Washington DC

A group of protesters toppled down a statue of Confederate General Albert Pike in Washington, D.C. on Friday night. The protesters gathered in Judiciary Square around the statue of Pike reportedly at around 11 p.m. (0400 GMT Saturday) and tore down the 120-year-old artwork 15 minutes later. The city’s only outdoor Confederate statue, after falling to the ground, was lit on fire before police officers arrived and extinguished the flames. The episode came on Juneteenth, which commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. US military units put on standby amid Minnesota unrest

In an extraordinary move, the Pentagon on Saturday said it put military units on a four-hour recall status to be ready if requested by Minnesota’s governor amid civil unrest following the killing of a black man by a white Minneapolis police officer.
