Ebonyi assemblyman’s brother found dead in car boot
The younger brother of an Ebonyi House of Assembly member has been found dead in his car boot along the Abakaliki/Afikpo expressway. The deceased, Samuel Aleke, reportedly left his house Saturday evening May 23 and was not seen until the next day when his corpse was discovered inside the boot of his car. He was the younger brother of the member representing Ebonyi North-west in the state house of assembly, Victor Aleke. Oyo state records 28 new coronavirus cases
Oyo State has recorded 28 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the latest figures released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday night. The 28 cases in the state were among the 339 figures recorded in 18 states on Thursday. The latest figure has increased the total number recorded in the state to 190. The recent daily increase in the number of people who tested positive to COVID-19 has created fear among residents, though the majority of them still go out without the use of face masks against the directive of the government. Police arrest 413 lockdown violators, impound 98 vehicles in Kano
The Police Command in Kano State has arrested and prosecuted 413 violators and impounded 98 vehicles in one week, following the enforcement of total lockdown operations to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Habu Ahmad, told newsmen on Thursday in Kano that the violators were held for disobeying interstate movement restriction order. Ahmad noted that the arrests were made after mapping the state, strategic deployments of both human and material assets of the command were made to 34 strategic points/areas across 17 front lines. “The front lines bordered Kaduna, Katsina, Jigawa and Bauchi States and are mapped out to checkmate and enforce the interstate movement restriction order,” he said. Court sentences man to two weeks community service for theft
A Grade 1 Area Court, Kubwa in Abuja on Thursday sentenced one Nura Usman, to two weeks community service for stealing one iron pipe and escaping from lawful custody. Usman was convicted and sentenced for criminal trespass, theft and escape from lawful custody. The judge, Muhammad Adamu, sentenced Usman to one week community service with an option of N3, 000 fine for the offence of criminal trespass and theft. Adamu also ordered Usman to observe one week community service for escape from lawful custody. He however, warned him to desist from committing crimes and be of good behaviour. Man commits suicide in Abia
A 50-year-old man, identified as Chukwudi Maduka has allegedly committed suicide at Umuezu-Ore Umuana village in the Uhuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State. The Public Relations Officer of the Abia State Police Command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, a superintendent of police, confirmed the development in an interview with newsmen in Umuahia on Tuesday. Mr Ogbonna said Mr Maduka was found dead early on Monday in his one-room apartment. One of the suspected killers of Dr Mandi Drenkat, a lecturer with the University of Jos has been arrested at the Babale area of Jos North local government area of Plateau State. BRT users lament shortage of buses, time spent in queues
Some users of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on Friday in Lagos decried a shortage of buses being released for services since the ease of lockdown on May 4. The commuters in separate interviews at the BRT Bus Stations stated that inadequate deployment of the buses had increased the time they spent in queues. However, according to observation, it appeared the operator had withdrawn many of the buses from the roads, because of the government’s new operational guidelines restricting them to carry only 20 passengers instead of 70 per buses. Police confirm abduction of APC vice-chairman, daughter
The Police Command in Kaduna on Thursday confirmed the abduction of the Vice-Chairman, All Progressive Congress (APC), Kaduna State chapter, Shu’aibu Idris-Lauge, and his daughter. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the incident in Kaduna. According to him, Shu’aibu and his daughter were abducted from their Kwanar Zango residence along Kaduna-Zaria expressway on Thursday morning. “Efforts are being made to rescue the kidnapped victims, apprehend and bring the culprits to book,” he said.
